The recent discussion of internships has me wondering about a student/advisee's future. She is an economics major who is writing a senior thesis on vertical structure and internet presence in the retail apparel industry. She will have a tiny bit of econometrics skills (and great ability to learn more) when she graduates.

The technicalities aside, she is particularly interested in working in the fashion industry, for lack of a better word. But I think she would be more interested in the corporate side of things--i.e. as a new graduate probably doesn't want to work in a retail store. Nor should she work retail. She will be far overqualified for that.

Aside from being a buyer or working in marketing what are the other jobs involved in all of this? Even job titles would be useful as I don't know. I suppose there must people who forecast demand and need for inputs, etc. What else?

If someone could help out that would be great. I realize I'm asking for a fair bit of information.

    Cheers all,

    bob
