You're right - I was being impatient, first thing Tuesday morning, I got an email from them with return/exchange documents, include a DHL shipping label. I apologized to them - next time I'll know. The loafers are on the way back, and they have a slightly larger/wider size reserved for me. I had to take another color/type, but that was fine. I really wanted blue boxcalf, and I ended up getting brown suede - so very happy about what's coming and I believe I've found my perfect size now (10F). Here's what's coming soon.

Sorry to hear the 9.5 E didn’t fit. The above is the pair I have and I’m sure you will not be disappointed. I think this brown suede is the definitive 180 loafer.

I agree with you on QC - I recently bought a pair of Alden 981, paid full price, they showed up with a pretty major flaw - I was surprised. I also just bought a pair of JMW, I had to send back because of size, and I'm doing an exchange. I was amazed how nice the JMW were. The leather was perfect - just an exceptional looking loafer. Here is what the Alden flaw looked like. I called, and Alden SF took $300 off so I kept them.

Alden SF did well! Good to know that.

I recently got the 986 and the 54321, from different retailers. Both in shell, both around $1,000 including shipping and tax. Both had flaws that I’d considered unacceptable (especially at this price point) but unfortunately I only noticed after wearing them 1-2 times. Maybe I should contact the retailers and ask for a discount.

I also got a pair of “seconds” from TSM and they actually look better than both.

When I called Alden SF, I was told that Alden has problems finding skilled people to work in the factory. My local cobbler here in Laguna Beach, has had a terrible problem finding someone to hire that an do advanced cobbler work. I think Europe probably has a bigger pool of skilled workers for handmade shoe construction (this is just a guess).

The flaw on my 981 was a result of not getting the leather on/off the last properly. I was amazed at the quality of the construction of the pair of JMW that I sent back - they were perfect! I got an email from them this morning telling me they were holding a pair in brown suede for me to make sure they had an exchange pair - that was really nice of them.

I would ask for a partial refund, take pictures, tell them you didn't notice until now. If the answer is no, I would ask for next level up....

That they can’t find good labor, as well as the annual price increases that occur like clockwork, they also need to find a better CFO.

Hi, I‘m also planning to order from the Weston site, just wondering, do you remember if the payment page allowed paypal or just credit card? Also, did you have to pay duties at all? Never had such a complicated time ordering a pair of shoes, hope this size works for you!

If you're in the U.S. - you can't order from the main site. They don't ship to the U.S. from the main site. You have to email with a boutique, they send a payment link, and they ship from the boutique. It's an odd way to do it, but it works. I ordered pair of 180 Loafers, 770E, and a pair of shoe trees, around 100E, and I did not have to pay VAT. I was sure I would get an email from DHL once here in the states, but happily no VAT.

If you're ordering from the states, let me know and I'll give you an email/name of the manager at their main boutique. Finding the right size is tricky, after measuring, and using their automated sizing tool online, I was told to order a 9E, I went ahead against their advice and ordered a 9.5E and they were too tight. So I sent them back and tomorrow I get a 10 F pair that should be a perfect fit. I wear a 10.5 UK in G fitting, and a 11 E or 11 EEE in US sizing.

Their shoes trees are incredible, they have a hole in them and fit perfectly, I'm really happy I ordered them. When the pair that was too small showed up, I was amazed how nice they are. There was a hand written note from the boutique manager - very classy!

I was not given the option for PayPal, I used a Credit Card, and the payment screen was in French, but I figured out how to fill it out.

I will post pics everything after they arrive tomorrow.

Thanks for all the info. I’m already in touch with the Saint-Honoré boutique, just wanted to check about duties. I’ve tried several sizes of 180 already. Their size guide suggests 9.5E, I’ve tried 9.5D and it was too small but pretty close so I’ll give that a shot.

€770 is already vat (EU)included, In the US seems anything under US$800 there's no import tax.
J.M. Weston does not accept Paypal. They will email you a secure link to pay for using credit card only.
If you want to order another pair, try contact Galeries lafayette Haussmann. There's a Weston boutique inside the department store. A 16% off the regular price will be offered. Shipping was €60 to Hong Kong. This is the link to their web.

Their shoe trees are lasted, that's why they're quite worth their (premium) price in my opinion.

They showed up today - my first JMW - WOW are they nice, a near perfect fit, with just a suspicion of heel slip on one foot only. After wearing for 10 minutes, it seemed to go away. These have instantly become my favorite penny..JMW site said a 9E, I ordered a 9.5E, which was too small, the 10F was perfect (I wear a 10.5 G in C&J, and a 11E in Alden Van last). I had read they don't come with shoe bags online and are in a plain brown box - not true, that is the way that Nordstroms sells them. The box has a top that opens like a book, the shoe bags are thick and really well made, the shoe trees are insane and totally worth it. Right now they have a sale, you can get these for 616 euros, or $662, that's less than what I just paid for a pair of Alden 981 and these are better made in my opinion. They got here with no VAT. Very fast shipping via DHL, but email communication required patience via email from Friday to Monday (French time). I called them twice and they spoke excellent English and all very very nice. I'll buy a 2nd pair in blue boxcalf...here are some unboxing pictures....

Got my 180s yesterday, great fit, but there’s an issue with the channel on one sole. Looks like a machine slipped and the operator did their best to correct it. It basically seems that at least part the channel goes right up to the edge of the sole, and it’s difficult to tell how deep these gouges are. I know this will wear off, but it seems like a great way to be sure the sole will split prematurely. Anyone have thoughts? I’ve contacted Weston seeking some kind of solution or exchange, and have yet to hear back. Hoping I won’t be stuck paying return shipping.

I see a brown box in the background - are these from Nordstroms? Or did you buy these direct from JM Weston? (one of their boutiques)
