I guess I could traipse on over to Amazon.com, read the reviews, then mix them up in a creative re-hash that bears no resemblance to anything those reviewers would ever write, and post them here. But if you want actual, thoughtful, hands-on opinions from someone who has actually read the book, I'm not your man.

Sorry.

You've never read anything by him before? I'd guess his genre is goofball magical realism.

I've read a few, and preferred Skinny Legs and All and Fierce Invalids Home From Hot Climes to Jitterbug Perfume.

Seems like a smart move. I assume that is a field he has to himself, though it is a great big world and maybe there is another goofball magical realism writer. Jitterbug Perfume was highly recommended by a lunch guest, out of my earshot. My wife bought me a copy. I suppose I will start it.

+1 on Skinny Legs and All and Fierce Invalids Home from Hot Climes. I've not read Jitterbug Perfume. He's out there, highly entertaining, and heavily drenched in music. Definitely worth reading.

It is excellent. The first 60-80 pages are a bit slow but it picks up steam and is a joy to read.

You kind of just have to roll with it.
