Jeanswest Selvage Denim, huh?

So I glanced at a bus going past today near the terminus and there was a big advert for "Japanese Selvage denim" by Jeanswest with two guys wearing sneakers and a pair of jeans cuffed revealing - you guessed it - selvage.

Jeanswest is a terrible Australian mall brand that produces predictable, trendy, plain clothing, all fairly cheap. Their biggest area is of course, their jeans, these are nothing to write home about though, to say the least. Which is why this caught me by such a surprise.

I'm wondering, is this a trend anyone else has seen? It's interesting that people are catching on to not only raw selvage denim but Japanese no less, granted these won't be anywhere near 45rpm, the idea is still curious. Things like this make me wonder whether we are all buying into a trend, with the justification of these jeans being better quality and personally distressed.

Sorry, no pictures or proof (there's nothing on the website), but I'll surely update when something comes up.

Gap selvedge denim. J.Crew selvedge denim. (generic brand) selvage denim.

Yup, this isn't a new, groundbreaking question at all...

Jeanswest fits more at the Old Navy end than Gap or JCrew.

Took these pics back in early 2007. Aside from the jeans being Quicksilver tell me what is wrong with them. Sorry for the ****** Cellphone pic, I was in Nordstrom Rack.

They probably just don't use the self edge for the outseam. This was most likely done to keep cost down.

+1. The denim can still be selvage and the jeans not have a selvage outseam. Not common, can depend on the cut or seam (like duckdiggers), and it's Quiksilver for fuckssake.

My friend said they had selvedge jeans at A&F, they were pre-distressed none-the-less, but now I can't feel like an elitist if everyone else has selvedge.

I wonder if any of them don't wash for 6 months, or starch the creases, that'd be something else.
