Jeans length

Alright, I have a question. I've been noticing that nowadays 32 length jeans just don't fit me very well. That is, they don't really touch my shoes, and I have an urkel thing going on at my feet. So I switched over to 34 length jeans, and now I have another problem: they are too long. What is a good solution to this problem? Can I soak the jeans in some way or another to get them down to the right size? I thought of bringing the jeans to a tailor, but then I realize that most tailor-shortened jeans I've seen don't have the trademark thick+crumpled cuff at the leg opening. I personally think that cuff is a trademark of jeans, and that my pair would look quite odd with a dress pants type leg opening.

Also, I recently bought a pair of Guess jeans that has alot more distressing than the online picture indicated.

Those patches of slightly lighter blue are actually closer to pure white, and when put against the really dark blue of the rest of the jeans, they really stand out. Will washing tone down this contrast to a reasonable level, or should I just return these?

If 32 is too short, then just leave the 34s as is.. they probably look better that way.

What do you call too long? You said 32 doesn't even hit your shoes, I can't imagine a 34 being too long...

Anyway, at the tailor you can ask them to keep the original hem.

If you have raw jeans, hem them and when you wash them they will crumple like they are supposed to.

If not, you can either hem them using the original hem, where they cut it off and stitch it to a new location and it looks almost like it did, or you can have it hemmed and shrink the hems in hot water and iron them some to help create the crumpling stuff. I think using all-cotton thread is one way people do that because the cotton thread will shrink more than the fabric.

If you dislike the constrast and dislike the length, I would recommend returning them. I find it absurb to buy something (unless hugely on sale) with the plan to substantially alter it. Also, I personally don't like those jeans. I'm not a raw freak who rejects are pre-distressed, but I find those to look dated. The heavy constrasting, bootcut, and wide leg all scream out-of-date.

If after all that you still want them, just get original hem re-attached.

How long is too long, is it longer than this? Sauce's pic is more or less perfect.

Back in my pre-dist days I had a few jeans that were a touch long. Any good tailor can do a "frankenhem" for you and you'd never know they were butchered; mine did them for $5 a pop.
