Has anyone ever used the Jean Shop in New York? What are your experiences/comments?

I was there the other week and it is a really cool shop. I would of bought a pair of jeans if I didnt already have to much. I got a awesome leather belt instead.

The staff was a little stuck up, but very knowledgable. They only make straight leg jeans and the woman tried to tell me that was because you can only make salvage on a straight leg.

Just for a little background, Jean Shop was started by the woman from Lucky Brand and apparently this is like her top shelf stuff.

you would probably get more bang for your buck with the jean shop since the rogan's are pretty flimsy.

Jean shop is also pumping out some nice leather. Their belts are cool, but their messenger bags, leather jackets and wallets are amazing. Their wallets are real simple and, I believe, are made from saddle leather with no finish on them so they acquire that deep brownish red color after wearing them in. They would be a great alternative for those folks who like the idea of red moon wallets, but not the bulkiness and buttons. A steep price at $175 for a plain wallet, though.

rogans are flimsy? i mean, i understand if i was wearing them hard for them to wear and tear soon. however, i just wear my jeans for going to class and walking around. well, nice jeans like the at least. are you telling me that for just walking around, having lunch, hanging out, etc. they aren't going to last me 6-8 months?

I own jean shops and I love them. They have some very intricate details that some jeans don't. Selvage zip fly, colored pockets, orange selvage, and an original hand stitched patch. The jean shop jeans remind me of a normal 5 pocket jean, but with an attention to detail. Nothing too flashy, but just enough for the denim "conossiur(sp?)" to get a hard on about. Some people have knocked the hardware (rivets, zipper, etc), but the zipper is a nice sturdy riri zipper and the buttons are cobra, so quality in my opinion. Get the jean shops damnit.

Jean shop jeans are good jeans, but, imo, overpriced and overly gimmicky (I mean, how much selvage can you use?). For very similar money, I'll shoot for 5EP or Nom de Guerre jeans, if you like that minimalist style in really quality denim, or go with APC for nearly identical cuts.

How much selvage? Are you kidding me? (zombie tone) We ... must ....have ....more ....selvage. I need a selvage belt, hat, socks, shoes, shirt, laptop, food... I think you get the point.

I admit they are a bit gimmicky, but come on, selvage is kinda a gimmick by itself. I mean the same quality in denim could be had with out a selvage line. If your gonna do gimmicks... do 'em til your head spins.

Well, there is too much of a good thing. Personally, I don't care too much about selvedge one way or the other. Two of my favorite companies, Rag & Bone and Corpus, don't generally use it (Corpus not at all, that I know of). But that aside, at $230+, you can get better jeans than Jean shop jeans. I do like their leather jackets and their belts are decent, though not, imo, spectacular.

True. If I lived in New York, I would walk myself down to Blue in Green and and buy some Studio D'artisan 103s. The jeans shops are a bit over priced, especially when compared to some of the other jeans available, but I particularly like the aesthetic value of them. To me they feel like some lvc 47s, but with a lower rise and a bit more fitted. I also, like the undyed weft, atleast I think it is. The weft is far from white and is actually a bit yellow, similar to the RRDS and other selvage nudies.

I just had them send me a wallet in the mail, and it's awesome. The leather is untreated (looks exactly like Red Moon) and feels great, but without all the bulk. I can't wait to see how it ages. I'll try and post pics later tonight. Also, it only cost $130. "Only."
