I'm looking to buy a few spencer cable knit sweaters from jcrew online and was wondering if anyone knew anything about the fit of the small vs. x-small. I'm a size 36 jacket and 29 waist, about 5'6 and looking for something slim cut. I do have a crewneck cotton/cashmere sweater from jcrew that's a small that fits so-so (a bit blousy at the stomach/waist), but I'm wondering if an xs might serve me better (I have never actually seen an xs in the store, so I've never been able to try it on).

Thoughts?

Thanks,
R.

you're just about the EXACT measurements as me, except i got an inch in the waist and height....to answer your question...no. J. Crew is about as typical american cut as you can imagine. It'll be too boxy in the arms, the chest will fit, but it's not a slim fit. I bought a brown herringbone XS car coat like 5 years ago in XS and it still is too big for me. But yeah, j crew and people our size does not work very well..

I am roughly similar measurements. 29 waist, 37 chest, but i am 5'10"

I can say that my cable knit cashmere blend sweater fits pretty slim. It is however maybe an inch too short, so i would think it would work very well for you. Size small. If you are worried about lenght check out the exact measurements for length i believe they are on the site...if not, give them a ring.

i'd go XS... depends if you're going to be wearing a l/s shirt under it though

take it back, the cable knit stuff is slimmer, but the regular lambswool stuff runs a bit more relaxed...

JCrew fits like a tent on me. They're sizing's almost as bad as bb. I'm 5'7, 28 waist.

Their stuff is very big on me. I have to size down to XS for anything to work in the chest/torso, but then the sleeves are too short.
