So I went into JCrew the other day to see what all the hype was about. I went with my girlfriend. While walking around, I saw they had astronaut ice cream packets. They were near the back entrance where a security guard was standing. I picked up a package then walked around and realized how crappy and over-priced everything was. 180 bucks for a sweater. 90 bucks for a shirt. are you kidding me?? what a ripoff. i may as well just walk down the street and buy margiela or thom browne. honestly, they have barbour and belstaff but that's about the only thing i would buy. oh and that baseball gum.

anyways, ridiculous prices aside, i went to the register in the front to pay for the ice cream, put it in my briefcase then go walk out the back.

this is when the ************* security guard comes up to me and asks me what i did with the ice cream. i told the cooltrucker i paid for it and put it in my bag. then he said "oh because i dont see any shopping bags." i opened my bag slightly to show it was in there then i just rolled my eyes at the dumbass and we left. what a terrible shopping experience.

why would anyone want to put up with this ****? when i go to Lanvin or Barneys NY I get champagne and don't get accused of stealing.

so in end effect you pay ridiculous prices for mediocre quality stuff that is all made in china, you get to stand in long lines to pay for it and then you run a high risk of being accused of stealing an item that costs three dollars and fifty cents. I just don't get it.

They've improved the fit on their button-downs. Saw some XS ones that are 15.5" shoulders and 17.5-18" in the p2p and the length/sleeves/body were all slim and a good length. Paid about $30 each.
Everything else is pretty terrible though.

That is essentially what made me kop good stuff, is that I was spending 65-75% of the amount anyway, for ish that was terribad.

People realise it at different times, can remember when it was pretty much just jet and dlester kopping this stuff.

Think about this: they were able to make a belt in the USA, sell it for $10, and still make a profit. This is proof that "made in USA" doesn't mean **** all.

Since I'm waifishly thin, I have had to do most of my J.Crew shopping online and pay their outrageous shipping fees when I don't have a coupon or don't feel like playing the "Let's buy more stuff than I intend on keeping solely to reach the $150 or whatever threshold, promptly returning the unwanted merchandise to the local store" game. Also, I tend to buy things at substantial discounts; if this means I miss out of something, meh.

I've never noticed security or bag check nonsense whenever I've been to the Michigan Ave. store in Chicago (or others in the area, for that matter), so I can't really comment on that. The sales staff can seem pushy sometimes, but that may mostly be because I'm neurotic and prefer to lurk in the shadows (5).

why do you think they're making a profit on every item they sell, especially those marked down to 75% off?

Unless J.Crew is doing a loss leader strategy like Wal-Mart or something -- an idea I have a hard time stomaching -- when they manufacture this stuff, they know a lot of it is going to make it to deep sale, and they price it accordingly.

yes, everything is priced in, but im sure that they suffered an individual item loss when i bought their $90 belt for $15. and if we're questioning made in america cost justification, i think the real targets would be brands like tanner.

It's freeze dried. Not bad in my experience.

If people want to hate on J.Crew, I'm fine with it, I guess. I have my own gripes on them.

But overall it's the only store I shop at for work clothes. Their stuff isn't usually graily for me, but it's more than acceptable and I usually dig my pickups pretty well.

As someone who's simply not willing to shell out the $$ on expensive clothes anymore I think I'll probably just shop at J.Crew exclusively.
