There are nice plain toe bluchers out there but I find those very unappealing.

I'd look into Alden, Alfred Sargent or Grenson for good options in the $300 range.

Obviously I'm going to be in the minority here but I bought these a few months ago and they have broken in nicely and feel well made. However, it really depends on what your really looking for in the shoe. I wear mine to work were the dress is very conservative (style-wise) business casual. That being said and this has already been mentioned in the thread, in the style department they are just meh. The leather looks great but they aren't very interesting to look at. When I'm going out on the weekends or after I work I choose to wear something else. But for the reasons I bought the shoes and using a 20% off coupon, they have worked out great.

Thanks all.

I realize they are pretty plain/boring.

Ideally I'm trying to find a shoe that's fairly simple, but with a touch of class.

A few notes on my thoughts so far:
1. I can't wear allen edmonds - none of their lasts fit me at all
2. I'm not really a fan of longwings or overly styled shoes (AE strand)

What would be somewhere in between?

Hmm,

What do people think of split-toe shoes for casual wear?

I'm also not the biggest fan of pebble grain. I kind of like a more standard leather with some distressing.

Those are good for casual wear. As usual, browns more versatile than blacks.

Looking at those more I really like them for the price. Unfortunately they only have 2 odd sizes listed. Grr.

Wait for their Christmas sale. They may have more sizes and might even be more discounted. They are made by C&J. Solid!
