These are 2 JCrew Ludlow Suits

I'd like to wear the 38R, as it feels slimmer and more modern. I am thin and have long long arms though (shirt size 15.5 35) so I feel a little like I need long sizes. Problem is being so thin, anything much bigger than a 38 drowns me.

Questions

1) How do the 38 and 39 sizes fit in shoulders, waist, etc.
2) The 39 is +1/2" in the sleeves, is it too much?
3) What size and alterations do you recommend?

The 39R looks better around the midsection, and the front of the coat hangs better - the lapels sit cleaner, with no kink in them due to the waist being too small.

The back of the sleeves hang a bit weird on both. Cannot really make out why that might be... I am not a tailor
