There's an interesting article in the NY Times today regarding new policies on summer business dress in Japan. They're calling for no jackets and ties to save on air-conditioning and pollution: http://www.nytimes.com/2005....ted=all I think it's an interesting idea, but couldn't they just wear summer suits? [IMG] I find the excessive AC in NY offices in summer really annoying. You dress for the outside weather, and then freeze inside the office. It SHOULD be colder in winter and hotter in summer.

We went over this a couple of weeks ago--I guess the NY Times is a few news cycles behind the LA Times. Â The propriety of summer suits depends on the summer suit chosen. Â To wit, former PM (well, PM for a couple of months, anyway) Tsutomu Hata in his famous short sleeved business suit: [IMG] It is even more memorable in navy blue, with the increased contrast vs. skin tone.

They look like the leaders of a sinister cabal of orthodontists, intent on world domination.

Really an interesting look into the culture, esp. re: the prominent place of the businessman.

Love that quote that the guy doesn't know what to wear; looks like there's room for the Men's Wearhouse casual Friday marketing team to eat into the trade deficit by opening stores in Japan.
