Japanese Streetwear-ish brands?

Hey guys,

While looking through pages and pages of Rakuten listings for various jeans brands, I've seen a few interesting t-shirts and other things, and thought that there must be a few brands that do more than just jeans (or maybe stuff other than jeans).

I saw a few Studio D'Artisan t-shirts that looked interesting, and was hoping to find a hoodie with the "Pig Brand" slogan on the back but I think that was just on a t-shirt. Skull Jeans by Alchemist also has some interesting stuff.

Thanks for ringring for the Red Moon link in a recent belt thread, there were some cool belts on there as well as at least one interesting hoodie.

Also saw a link to a place called graniph that did some interesting t-shirts, although most of the designs didn't appear to me that much.

Are there any other good Japanese brands that would have some interesting t-shirts, belts, or hoodies?

See if I can get my GF to pick up some stuff for me

There are a lot of brands that are often not discussed here but are really popular in Japan. Goodenough, for example, is relatively cheap, and impossible to find here. I personally like Beauty:Beast, which often has some interesting stuff every season (lots I couldn't wear though). Actually, I haven't heard anything about those guys for a while or seen anything from them... Sort of wondering what is up with that brand. Of course, be sure to pick up some Loopwheeler stuff. Redmoon is nice, but for my money, I would go with Baltazar any day.

The ALLENTOWN Japanese streetwear brand fascinates me. Why the Japanese, Billy Joel and Mods fetishize this working-class Pennsylvania town is beyond me.

I think it was worse when I couldn't figure out why the Japanese would name a denim label with a slightly oblique Feynman reference.

I quite like a lot of the wtaps products, appear to be good quality this may interest you. You're on the ball looking at rakuten for ideas, many interesting goods.

Mushroom clouds permeate contemporary japanese art, including anime and manga. Not difficult to grasp why it would stick in their minds, or craw. The NY Times magazine article on Murakami broke it down pretty well. It's in the john upstairs, would be glad to transcribe or scan some of the relevant bits if there is any interest. That would probably be a different thread. I've been derailing everywhere I post lately, gotta stop that.

I like Lad musician although some of their designs fall into the "made for skinny hipster and paid by daddy" cliche.

Huh? I thought 5EP was American----and I thought it was a reference to the Jack Nicholson vehicle Five Easy Pieces---itself a reference to the five notoriously difficult piano pieces that he plays in the film.

It is. I got mixed up with the country.

As for the name, that's sort of the joke. I only knew the Feynman book. The movie title is a reference to the title of a book of piano lessons for beginners. Everything else, I assume, is some repeat entendre play off that.

Yes. He wrote Six Easy Pieces. I was a big Feynman fan when I was little.

I really like Lad Musician, but of course it's all rather hard to get over here in America. Lately I've also been looking at a lot of things by RICO and Lounge Lizard, both which have tons of really cool (or really silly..) pieces.
