I live in Tokyo now, anyone have any recommendations where to shop for shoes? Which Japanese brand is most on par with EG? I already have way too many EGs and want to try something else without stepping down in quality. Thanks y’all!

Given you’re in Japan you could look into some of the MTO/MTM/bespoke offerings that are really not much different price wise than EG and should be a step up and would be much more accessible to you locally.

Seiji McCarthy is in line with EG or a little below price wise for MTO and MTM is comparable. Siroeno Yousi is maybe a touch higher than EG on price but is MTM with trees included. Corno Blu has a number of shoes that look an awful lot like EG.

Had my visit to Marquess and picked these up. Fit is great. Pattern fantastic.

Placed an order for these, that I think are absolutely fantastic. I'm pretty soft on a penny loafer in dark brown pig skin too. He had the most beautiful pig skin I've ever seen.

I agree!
Spoke about what he works on in terms of improving the shoes he create. Technical stuff, sure, but what he has focused most on is to improve the already great balance.

I'm really considering an MTO wholecut from Yohei Fukuda. They look stunning. How does Yohei Fukuda compare to the Gaziano & Girling mainline or Deco range? MTO pricing is similar to Deco but the quality looks phenomenal

The YF have a very flat and low toe box - it helps give that sleek look, but I found it too tight. I am a 8.5E in GG and took an 8 in YF. Had to sell it after a few months. They are made by Han shoe in Asakusa is the rumor - you may well go straight to Han and get a bespoke for a little more. Other makers like Ando and Kiyo may provide more value than YF IMHO. If you Iive overseas then the YF may be easier, but be careful of the size and fit - I was fitted by YF himself off test shoes, but turned out it was not forgiving in fit.

Thank you, I will check out those other makers. I'm in London so easiest for me to get fitted and buy would be GG but if the quality is better for similar or slightly higher price range I'm happy to go with Yohei or another Japanese maker. Is there a website for Han shoe?

It seems to be all on Instagram nowadays, and if you follow Thundermarch you will see that nothing is impossible being far from the makers - it does take some effort I imagine though, but the rewards are numerous! Good luck with your endeavors Sir!

Beautiful shoes. Would you be kind enough to share your insights on the stock lasts he has, the adjustment on the stock last he is willing to make, and the overall fitting of your mto.

Visually it looks like a TTS, with medium instep and accommodating toe width.
