NC, I'm trying to look for a good leather conditioner/cleaner for calf. I just want to confirm, is this the one that you've been using?

It just says leather lotion on the bottle (just like in your picture), so I want to make sure this is what you're referring to as the leather conditioner/cleaner. Also, there's a "mild" version -- have you any experience using that? Thanks!

How would a leather sole conditioner differ from the ones you use on the shoe itself?
    Aren't both "leather" ?

Yes that is it. Never tried the mild version (brown) though. The one I actually use now is the M. Mowbray Stain Remover. Similarly light, water based cleaner. Cost a lot less than BB version. :) Amazon.jp link

The BB leather sole conditioner is thick and creamy. I suppose it contains lots of oils to penetrate and moisten the sole. It also contains some mildew-proof agents? (not exactly sure what chemical that is) It works quite well for dry, flaky soles.

Here is a link to some pictures I took.

p.s. but yes, a specialised sole conditioner is not a necessity. 'Regular' leather conditioners like the two mentioned above (BB and Mowbray) should do an adequate job cleaning/moistening the soles too, IMO.

Thanks, NC. I believe both these brands are available at Hankyu Mens and Daimaru. I just might drop by this week and get it from there instead.[IMG]

Does it really make a difference?

The soles of the shoes I have on the link looked quite bad (dry and flaky fibers), days after waddling through several monsoon storms. I think the conditioner (contains oils) did make the leather look healthier.

Here is an interesting product called the Leatherstick by Abbeyhorn. Yes, made in the UK (buffalo horn) and sold in Japan.

Perhaps not its intended purpose, the leatherstick can be used in conjunction with the sole conditioner, for pressing the loose fibers down on the sole.

The laetherstick is wrapped in cloth and rolled firmly on the sole.

    See the difference? Maybe?

The 89th Tokyo Leather Fair will be held for two days from tomorrow. This is free, but I feel there are few English speakers inside this fair.

Here are pics of the 88th:

Columbus' booth: shoe care and leather dyeing lessons

Fascinating! Looks like quite a few tanneries from overseas are exhibiting too!

    Thanks for the info!

Buckles look to me very prominent, but this is very beautiful. Most of photos of Kawaguchi-san are real shoes for clients and look pretty good.

Unfortunately, only some leathers come from Lineapelle
