I'm preparing to order my first shirt from Jantzen. I plan to order some plain white and blue shirts considering that i will probably be interviewing and working in a rather conservative industry. I'll order only one first so i can tweak the fit. I have a few questions:

1) What would be a good plain white fabric? He has #1,(White Cotton 120's, 2 Ply 100% Italian Cotton) and #11(#11, Super Fine White Plain Cotton, 140's, 2Ply,100% Sea Island Cotton). Any thoughts on those ?

2) How good are his plain blue fabrics? Any favourites?

3) There's definetly no shortage of collars you can choose from. I'm not so sure which one should i get. It would probably be a spread collar since i like the windsor knot a lot. Any favourites there?

Thanks,
Milos

I would advice against his end-on-end fabrics, they wrinkle like crazy. I would, however recommend the fine herringbone patterned fabrics as they are silky and thick, gives a very luxurious hand.

I'm a big fan of the Dobby #155 dogbone. It may have a bit more sheen that you want, but I really like the weight and it withstands wrinkles very well.

My favorite for white is French Oxford #7. It's thick, but open weave, with a nice subtle sheen to it and soft against the skin. Very small white herringbone was good, but that's sadly out of stock now.

Favorite for blue is JKT #0028, Light Blue Super Fine Twill, which costs a little extra, but definitely worth it, in my opinion. I'm wearing it today, and it's great.

I'm not too impressed with the blue 140s sea island cotton, so I never tried the white one, but based on what I have, I wouldn't recommend it. It's rather light and feels a bit papery to me.

Collars #5, #16, #27 look pretty similar to me, and good for windor knots. #P15 and #A16 also look good for windsors, but they have a slightly different shape (they look more Italian than English to me, actually). The real key will be getting the length of the collar points and the back height right. You should measure you favorite existing collar's point lengths and collar height and go with that. FWIW, I like my points to be either 2 3/4" or 3" and back height 1 3/4" -- I always think a spread collar look better if it is a little higher.
