James Bond star Daniel Craig wears stacked heels in new movie Quantum of Solace.

Craig's co-star Gemma Arterton, 22, said he needed a little extra height for certain scenes.

Gemma, who stands 5-feet, 7-inches tall, said: "Daniel is 5-feet, 10-inches, but when they put me in heels I was taller . . . and it didn't look good on screen. The whole point of Bond is that he is masculine and hunky and he has to be taller than his girlfriend.

"Daniel had to wear shoes with a lift to them and stacked heels for a few scenes - but he took it very well. He thought it was funny."

Craig is one of the shortest actors to take on the James Bond role, with Sean Connery, 77, and Timothy Dalton, 62, both 6-feet, 2 inches. Roger Moore, 80, and Pierce Brosnan, 55, are just a shade shorter at 6-feet, 1-inch.

When he was originally chosen to play Bond, Craig faced a barrage of criticism for being too short and fair haired. Arterton disagrees.

"Daniel is the sexiest Bond ever. He didn't have to wear the special shoes during the whole film, just for the scenes where they wanted me in stilettos."

Other famous males who wear heels to boost their height include Prince, who is 5-feet, 2-inches, and French President Nicolas Sarkozy who is 5-feet, 5-inches.

I loved Brosnan's Bond's right up to the invisible Aston, which was completely ******* ridiculous. Good acting, tough but a little fun. His clothes, too, are my favorites, so far. I love nearly all the Bond films, with the exception of the ludicrous Moonraker and a few other Moores. Moore is by far the weakest Bond. Even the wooden Lazenby I find more enjoyable. Moore is a total pro and a very nice person (from all the stories actor friends have told me), but I find him sexless and robotic. But, even he can't ruin some of the films. Connery Craig Brosnan Dalton ...for me.
