Do you all have any advice regarding anti-reflective coating on the back of sunglass lenses? I always take AR coating on my opticals, but I’ve had mixed feedback from people (including opticians) regarding whether it’s worth the upcharge on sunglasses. Not sure whether it’s worth the extra $100 in this instance.

AR coating for $100? That's... insane. AR coating is VERY cheap to do, and do well too. Some people will try to justify it by saying "oh the coating will peel off for low quality stuff" which is true, but high quality coating also peels off or chips at the same rate. JMM stock lenses come with AR coating and they suck. They're easily damaged. I know people who just straight up remove the coating when they get new lenses.

I would not do $100 for AR coating. I personally also don't notice too much of a difference with AR coating regardless, it's only helpful in some very specific circumstances but overall it's mostly for the cool color reflection you get when you look at the glasses in different light.

Thanks again for everyone's feedback. I'm going to grab the Fellinis as sunglasses and will then also think I've narrowed the opticals down to Zeph 47s in platinum or Prudhon in noir. Would be very happy with either--they're both comfortable, the more discreet width I would prefer for opticals, and they share a bridge design that I particularly like--but also would appreciate any opinions on fit factors that might lead me to prefer one over the other.

Prudhon 100% of the way. To be honest I think Zephs are a bad frame for most people, unless you really lean into the design of it with your dress, I think it ends up flat or art school student (not that there's anything wrong with art school students. they're just quirky). Prudhon is an interesting enough departure from rectangular that I think you would be happy with them in the long term, whereas Zephs I feel do not offer the same thing.

For what it's worth I think the Ichikawa look great on you, and that would be my second choice over the Zephs.

This is absolutely true, they suck! After seeing my Taos lenses disintegrate in a freckled manner after only two cleans, I now get nervous everytime my JMMs need cleaning. On the other hand, the Hoya gradients with AR I put in the Taos are on another level, these things are a gem to clean and the fear of damage is non-existent.

Ichikawas in noir, which I've been quite eager to try. Not quite sure what I think of these. I think I'd like them better if I grew out my hair again, if that makes any sense.

I'd like to see the Ichikawas fully front on with the photo taken much further away. They'll look much better on you without the lens distortion.

I skipped AR coating once and instantly regretted it. I ended up getting these "floating" spots whenever I wore the sunglasses. Basically just glare, but it would be super distracting since it was so close to my eye.

Can't remember how much I pay for AR, but I get them any time I get sunglasses now.

I haven't tried this yet on the silver arrows on the JMM frames, but I use Sunshine Polishing cloths on a few silver fountain pens that I own. Just a light pressure rub and the tarnishing is out.

You could also embrace the light tarnishing as a sign of character on your frames!
