Thank you…the selfies don’t really show it, but all my adulthood, I have drawn the Redford comparison, so if they’re not too big, I might be able to pull them off about as well as this photo. I look forward to trying them on.

I am not certain if I am under the influence of JMM or the influence of the enthusiastic aficionados here, but I do know that just reading your posts have broadened my optical horizons and encouraged an update that I am enjoying. It is much appreciated.
The Domoto is more rectangular than the frames Redford is wearing in the photo you posted. The frames Colin Farrell wears in “The Gentleman” may give you a better representation.

There is also a new JMM model called the Shozo, which is a round version of the Domoto. That may be more like Redford’s frames.

You need to try them on. As you know, measurements only tell some of the story.

I typically can only wear the smaller to mid size frames. Because of the narrow bridge and shape of the frame (more narrow at the top and then then they widen towards the bottom), these actually fit me better, albeit in an oversized way, than many of the mid sized JMMs.
I have had the same experience. The Hopper Peppers by measurement alone should be all wrong on me, but though they are larger than what I am used to, something about their design makes sense and allows me to carry them off somehow.

My experience with JMM has led me to be less dismissive, and try everything. You never know until you try.

New Ascari colors look nice (chocolate and Agar). Man when is JMM
going to get rid of those goofy little notches on the right arms. I know they can get rid of it because their new frames don’t have it…but they refuse to fix it on their older frames

Yes I don’t know why it bothers me either haha

Is that not the spot where the cameo badge is affixed?
You know that “3D” emblem that they always mention in their advertising blurb like it’s some kind of huge bonus but nobody really gives a flying **** about?

Long shot but does anyone have a lead on a pair of Montanas in vintage tort?

Thought I found a pair with a small LA-based optometrist. Purchased them through their website only to be told 24 hours later that they conveniently “just sold the last pair.” Now I have to wait for my credit card to be refunded.

Was gonna pick up a pair of fellinis but I might hold off until I can try on the Standifords. I have a feeling they might work for me in an over the top sort of way.

For our stateside friends, I'm fairly certain glasses are hit with a medical device import tax, no matter the amount.

20% is a lot. I remember @dieworkwear may have had some experience with how things are taxed between opticals and sunglasses and some lens trickery, IIRC?

I was told by a California shop that if I took out the lenses on my sunglasses, then I can buy them as medical devices (not taxed) rather than a fashion accessory (taxed). I believe if you import glasses, you also have to provide some proof that the lenses pass some type of shatterproof test, so removing the lenses may be beneficial for other reasons. Of course, this is only useful if you plan on replacing the lenses with prescription lenses. Also useful if you don't plan on reselling them, where you might want all the original materials.

I've never asked a shop to remove the lenses if they don't already offer this "no tax" service. Feels like one of those things that's a benefit if they do it, but I'm personally not comfortable asking someone to work around their system for me. For those who want to buy from a shop that offers this, I got this info from Focal Point in Berkeley.
