Sorry for posting in this thread, but I saw it’s the most active one, and I hope someone here can give their opinion.

I recently bought a pair of Matsuda M3023-SG sunglasses and noticed something unusual when cleaning the lenses.

The lenses are made of CR39 material with a gradual tint. When I clean them with a microfiber cloth and Zeiss Lens Cleaning Spray, I see a faint yellow-brownish residue on the cloth. However, there is no visible damage to the lenses themselves.

I’m wondering if this is just leftover residue from the manufacturing process since the glasses are new, if this is harmless staining, or if it could be a sign that the tint or coating is damaged by the cleaning product.

Has anyone experienced something similar? Should I just go back to the time-tested dishwashing liquid and water method?

PS: I noticed that the contents of the Zeiss spray I am using are identical to the ones in the Zeiss spray branded for glasses use.
Dishwashing liquid and water is the best cleaning agent for a non-exposed wire core frame imo

Any of you high rollers out there get the cleaning kit?
Is the fluid refillable?
Is the box leather or just material covered cardboard?
The spray in the cleaning kit is the best part. It’s refillable and quality construction. You just can’t get a refill of the solution from JMM 😆 The box and spray is covered in a thin leather. Let me know if you have any other questions!

Thanks for that. Ordered.
Ridiculous price really for what you get but hey you only live once eh?
It’s the tool I’m really after. I got one with my LFs but as dumb as this seems I don’t like breaking up the kits you get with your JMMs. I like to keep everything in tip top as new condition - even the frames I like so much I’d be very unlikely to ever part with. This way I can now have an extra tool and cloth handy without breaking up a kit. Crazy I know but which of us who is a JMM collector doesn’t have some weird quirk?😁

💯 The price was hard to swallow but I needed the tool and the spray. I travel often for work and needed something to last while looking nice 😆 The cloth is a bit smaller than the typical ones with the frames.

I have the kit also, and I don't believe it's real leather. The tool is great to have.

Thank you for the input and the suggestions, guys!

A brief update: I have since tested cleaning them with just water and they still stain the microfibre cloth, so I will continue observing if this persists after cleaning them a few more times and see if it is a manufacturing issue.

About the fit, regardless the fact that measurements are often inaccurate, the total width is only one factor, you have also to consider the size and the shape of the lenses.

In this case, for example, although the frame extends sideways, the lens looks rather restrained, so the fit would be actually more medium than wide.

Curious about your impressions, of course.

It's true, the lenses aren't as wide as those on a Torino, but that's only because they have a rounded shape towards the bottom and it's not a navigator-style model. I would describe the Fitzgerald as medium, while the Heywood is definitely "wide", IMHO. After all, it's a 151mm wide frame, which is not small at all—for example, on my partner's face, it looks like a caricature pair of glasses, the kind clowns wear! :)

I thought about buying the kit a few months back, then when I was ready to pull the tigger they had sold out on the JMM website. Recently they’ve reappeared so there must have been a restock.
It’s possible that the not entirely always honest and ethical JMM is pulling a sneaky scam but on the website page leather is not mentioned under ‘details’ but then below it mentions “limited edition leather goods” under “handcrafted heirlooms” so it’s not clear exactly what materials are used for the kit box.

Anyway as a small mitigation I wasn’t charged extra for shipping and it’s supposed to be sent overnight so might even arrive today!

I’ve mentioned Fuse lenses a few times on here. I discovered them a while ago when I was looking to spice up a pair of Wayfarers and was going to buy lenses off eBay till I realised the seller was in Clearwater FL not far from me so I went in person. I’ve had them put custom lenses in a few of my JMMs at very reasonable cost and they do them while you wait along with having a mail order service too.

Anyway for those not extravagant enough or insane enough to pony up $125 for the JMM kit Fuse does a nice spray and cloth kit (no tool) for a tenth of the price. It comes in a see through plastic envelope type case - nothing fancy. Nice thing is that it’s flat so easy to carry in a pocket.

Of course if you cosy up to your local optical shop or optician they often give away cleaning cloths and fluid sprays for free or throw them in gratis if you place an order!

To clean my glasses and lenses, I use a specific car detailing product: Good Stuff Glass Cleaner.
I've never had any issues with acetate or the anti-reflective coatings on filters

Speaking of fancy accessories: this is the only hard case I’ve found that can fit the JMM (barely, Enzo prob doesn’t fit, I haven’t tried); wish I was joking. And no, I didn’t have much of a choice, it was between this and a persian. At least it was €2.95.

I was going to buy a hard case from JMM but it was when the Wolf 21 fiasco happened.

I really like the concept of raw/undyed leather in the sleeves, but they don’t protect the glasses enough when I put them in my backpack. I’d love a hard case with that leather though.

So I’m thinking that JMM’s business operations have been significantly hampered by the LA fires. By coincidence, I placed an online order for a Kellerman frame the day before the fires broke out (Tuesday). The order was confirmed, and remains pending. But there has been no shipping confirmation for many days now. My past experience is that they consistently ship within 48 hours. This time, nothing after 4 days. Honestly, I don’t even want to reach out and bug them on the order status at this time. I can be patient. But I’m concerned for what disruption they appear to be going through.

They closed all of their LA boutiques so I imagine their warehouse is shut down as well. Between the fire dangers and disruption and the hazardous smoke levels, I can't blame them. I am curious what they plan to do with their Palisades boutique. Even if it survived I don't think they're going to have any customers in that area for some time. I also wouldn't be surprised if the Palisades boutique employees were severely affected by the fire.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
