Thoroughly unimpressed with the Duende. Think we’re starting to head downhill here, and $1050 is laughable
I agree. I know I'm being overly critical lately due to. QC issues and the "Wolf 21" fiasco but as I mentioned before, my criticism is going to be proportional to the price.

I can't remember the last new frame I liked, in my collection I only have the older ones.

They seem to be throwing stuff at the wall and see what sticks. And using celebrities. Like, not just using their name like they've always done or simply having them wearing them casually, but using actual celebrities either directly endorsing the frame (Jeff Goldblum, Valentino Rossi, Yasiin Bey? Jeremy Strong and probably others I'm forgetting) or indirectly (like Brad Pitt and George Clooney in GQ photocall, with frames that hadn't yet been released).

Really? I like these. Especially the detail in the wire core.

The only thing that worries me is the 143 frame width. I usually try to stick to 145 or higher.
It’s just a rebranded Richard with different colors and wire core. I was expecting a completely new frame. I don’t dislike the shape by any means, I have a Grand Prix that I love. Just got my hopes up for something entirely new

Actually, I wanted to buy a Richard, but I didn't want to deal with getting sunglass lenses, so this is perfect for me.

Only, Richards are 146, while these are only 143.

@obecity all good? Help me call out JMM (Jacques Marie Mage) on this celebrity nonsense.

To be honest when it comes to Jeff Goldblum and Jeremy Strong they seem to have shown a genuine love for the brand before working with them. Don’t know about Rossi.

I don't know what to think about the JMM QC thing. I have four pairs including the Wolf21. All of them are excellent. However, I do agree that the Wolf21 wire in the temples is a little inconsistently aligned in the left and right temples. Other than that, I don't think it is a deal killer for me. And they were my first Ascari frame which I really like. But, the price increases on the other hand, seem to be another matter, look at shipping costs.

With Rossi, it’s a "do ut des" situation because Jerome’s son is a motorcycle racer (or at least tries to, or would like to be at a higher level).
It’s basically a kind of mutual favor exchange. Rossi doesn’t know anything about glasses.

Brad Pitt is a long time sporter of the brand, right as far back as when Taos was released.

Don’t know much about these celebs. Goldblum seems to be a genial nice guy and though I haven’t studied his style sense he seems to present himself OK. Recent pics I’ve seen of Pitt he seems to have gone right overboard into full attention seeking fashion victim territory with the skirts, schlubby suits, drop crotch trackie bottoms etc.

I don’t feel influenced in any way by either as I discovered the brand long before I was aware of any celebs being into it (back around oh page seventeen for those who obsess over such things 😁) but I know who I’d rather have shilling for me if I was JMM.

That whole Pitt and Clooney showboating display they did for their latest movie was pure vomit. Absolute egomanics!

Is he? I was unaware of this, I know he wore the rootbeer Taos but that was for another GQ photoshoot and it was because the stylist was a fan of the brand, not himself. But maybe he became a fan after that, don’t know.
