My Instagram reel addiction pays off sometimes 😂
I’m trying to curtail my JMM addiction so I almost feel a relief when I see new releases that don’t excite me. Wolf is a great colour I have Yellowstone Dealans in Wolf from a couple of years ago. Haven’t had the chance to wear them much (they feel more ‘autumn’ than summer to me for some reason) but I have no regrets I really like them. I almost feel like I wish the mottle effect was a bit more obvious to distinguish them more from flat black.

If JMM ever releases one of these ultra limited editions that I like and I miss it I’ll be pissed; luckily it hasn’t happened yet.

Totally feel you there. My Dealan black wolf is my most worn pair, and Montana’s are a rarity anymore so this was a no brainer for me. First pair in several months

Isn’t he violating your law by having too big of a collection? I’m sure you flatly stated earlier that having such an expansive collection was wrong and shouldn’t be allowed.
WOW. Just…wow. Well, seemingly. However, dear friend, he purchased when prices were half of what they are now, right, so I’ve made an allowance for him to have double what I would normally accept as permissible. Entirely consistent. I’m sure we can all agree on this.

Although the official website only has that one available other colourways can still be found elsewhere. MrPorter has like 5 colourways for the Taos. I’ve seen the camel and some noir available elsewhere. Of the available colours I like the indigo.
I’m hoping they’ll release some sort of Havana soon. If nothing new is announced, I might go with Camel instead.

Haha -

- Checks email, sees a message from JMM re Yellowstone Wolf
- Mildly intrigued, clicks on link
- See Yellowstone Wolf on JMM website … sold out!

You’ve just gotta love ‘em eh?
100% agree with you TWD (ThinWhiteDuke). It’s absolute rubbish and NOT OK(!) that a frame is already sold out when it’s posted. It just confirms that JMM (Jacques Marie Mage) is likely giving first dibs to the “important” people rather than fans who are down in the ding dang trenches!

Prepare to be pissed, right, because I don’t recognize your name as a famous motion picture actor or some athlete or hippy hopper singer. Seems like the special releases go to special people first. Despite that, I’m still a number one fan.

I do hate this artificial scarcity thing in the name of “exclusivity”. As if having one frame out of 25 vs one out of 250 is going to make a difference, there’s 8 billion of us, ffs.

But yeah if they make only 25 they’ll go quickly, no need for celebrities to be involved. They probably sell the first 25 ones for regular releases (say, 250 to 500) shortly after they put them up in the website, and if they send some newsletter and post a story in IG then poof, they’re gone.

I’ve got some turquoise Dealans that are number 4 of 15. You had to win a raffle via Black Optical to get them!

I hear that Size? does something similar with adidas retro sneaker releases.

My cobalt Herbies are number 43 of 50 and were bought through the JMM website. IIRC they were available for sale several days / weeks after I bought mine.

My vermilion Dealans are 21/35 bought from Optica Toscana in Spain and were still available weeks after I got mine.

So there seems to be no obvious trend as to what sells out quickly and what’s be available for an extended time among the very limited runs.

After spending a few hours searching my current grail (indigo ascaris), I do see a trend: stuff in more traditional black (or near black) or tortoiseshell tends to go quicker. Non-black solid colours, less so.

For the ascari, marshmallow and glacier are everywhere. In black I’ve only seen some polaris, which prob. won’t last long. Jeffs are long gone except for those zebra and gold ones sitting on the shelves.

BTW Optica Toscana still has some vermillion dealans, and Maxfield also has the vermillion ascari.

As for sneakers, yeah I hate it too: Nike does it with their Jordans, they release e.g. the “bred” ones every few years in very limited quantities.

I've always said it, solid colours, except for black and a few very dark ones, look rather cheap and unattractive, not to mention the showy, out there ones, like Checkered, Zebra, Gold, Cheetah.

If you look at some Facebook collectors groups, those colourways seem to get some love, but mostly the owners have huge collections, where also an extravagant piece could have some place.

The "normal" buyer though will always prefer the traditional colourways in black and various brown tones.

Fair comments ^^
I often have a bit of a moan when a new release hits the site in a shape I might like but in yet another version of boring black, brown or tort, but I’m fully aware that these are the fast sellers in being more versatile.

As for the brighter colours - context is everything. I reckon some people seek those frames when they’ve satisfied their need for black and brown. Also if you’re in Florida, California, Hawaii or the French Riviera you can get away with a lot more adventurous clothes and frames than you can in New York, Boston, Chicago and rainy Northern Europe.
