Re. the “Ian” model, there might be some copyright issues at play. Ian Malcolm is a character whose rights I guess originally belonged to Michael Crichton who I suppose sold them to Universal. I wonder at what point selling that model would’ve considered movie merchandise and Universal might have objected.

I’ve always wondered about the legal aspect when it comes to JMM models, which are usually (always?) liked to some real person or fictional character. Was using Dealan instead of Dylan a way to protect themselves from a lawsuit? Is there some kind of deal/contract in the cases where the person is alive and well (e.g. Richard Ashcroft)? What about the cases where the person is long dead and the real name is used, like Fellini or Enzo, do they have their heirs’ permission?

The Jeff I guess are different as the guy itself is promoting/endorsing them so either he’s happy to do it because he likes the stuff (and in exchange for some free pairs), or he takes a cut.

You addressed a real issue. That's the reason why they use slightly changed names, as Dealan for Dylan, Molino for Mollino and had to change the former Loewy in Devaux.

In other cases they found an agreement in collaborations where they are allowed to use real names and even signatures, as for the Jeff, the Cash, the Kubrick, etc.

we can see you really like the Enzo , lol jk do you have any other models ?

Not currently. I've always gravitated to Enzo.

I'm the guy that finds a t-shirt that fits and buys doubles in every colour.

@elisiX what is your favourite? And the most complimented?

I'm a sucker for anything green so Surplus and Rover.

Both are seen as grail pieces for me.

If I was to name a top 3 i'd add in the Hickory Fade or Argyle.

Seems like you got some good deals there, well done!
Not sure if Guichard actually make the JMM ones but they appear to be very similar. If the quality between the two matches I’d say Guichard still have the edge as you can choose interior and exterior colours as well as hardware. I went with chrome hardware and chose cobalt blue and scarlet red for my two.

They're the exact same case - one is branded, the other is not. This has been discussed previously.

As for colour selection giving the edge, well i'd have bought the JMM maroon colour even if I was to order direct from Guichard. I like the aesthetics of the brand so to me it made sense to get the official case if I was no worse out of pocket.

I've seen your case posted before and the cobalt blue is stunning.

Yeah notwithstanding the vaguaries of lens and focal length etc mentioned above, these look good to me and are probably at the outer level of a good size on you before looking oversized. Of course some people like and go for the oversized look but like everything else there’s a happy medium range!

Ooh sneaky. This is like the reverse of the old ‘what’s your most cherished pair?’ question that comes up from time to time.

I have 11 pairs right now. Waiting for the perfect pair to finish the collection for good. (Ha ha!). If they come up with an Ashcroft in a sexy colour that will be it for me.

Right now I’d let go my cobalt Herbies - because I’ve always felt they looked just a bit too big on me and I’m really hoping they make a Lapis Molino which if they did would make the Herbies sorta redundant. Straight swap.

Also maybe I’d let go my reserve Comanche. They’re a really cool pair but just not getting used much these days. Perhaps my least-worn pair?

If I did get the mythical Lapis Molinos to replace the Herbies then per your rules I’d still have to lose one more, plus I’d still have one more empty slot in my second six slot case.(The other six are all Dealans). Sorry - can’t narrow it down any further than that. After all the wheeling and dealing I’m closing in on what I believe to be the perfect collection for my needs and when I’m done it would have to be something really special to get me to buy more and I’d be trying g hard to follow a one in one out policy!
Replace Herbies with Belize. I'll convince you one day to wear TV screen sized frames!

I'd nuke my Schindlers. They hang a bit lower on my nose and the frame is relatively heavy up front.

Just remember this with photos.

Holy crap! That gif is amazing and so informative! I’ve been wrapped up in trying to know how fat my face really appears IRL (in real life) compare to my iPhone selfies at various distances. What mm lens should be used to reproduce real life? I need to know because maybe my face will allow more narrow frames than Molino 55, Dealan 53, Kubrick, etc…

I am pretty sure I stole that .gif from this thread way back :)

For me, I always try and use the 2x lens on the iPhone for a more natural look.

The problem is having long enough arms, so I tend to set my phone up.

From theverge;

As it is, the 2x zoom is at its best in good lighting with relatively close subjects. If you're shooting a landscape or something distant, the difference between the 1x main lens (a 24mm-equivalent on the 14 Pro) and 2x (two times 24 is… yep, 48mm-equivalent) is usually a bit less important.

Finally bought a larger case for my frames. RX frames have been living in the 3 slot which has been really convenient for day to day, but I was really getting sick of jumping between boxes for my sun frames. This does leave my Enzo Ochre in a hard shell for now, but I have another on the way so I’ll fill another 6 slot. Ideally another JMM briefcase.

Wow what a great collection! Is the middle pair on the right lapis color? Or something like aubergine?

They’re absolutely nothing alike which is why I found the comparison so funny 😂

Lapis is such a striking electric blue while Skye is dark navy. Lapis is flavor of the month so I think it’s on people’s minds currently.

That said they’ve certainly released colors again by simply adding or removing exposed wire core to differentiate.

Anyone got a line on a pair of Yves in Noir, preferably Noir 3? I saw a pair for sale a while back and I’m regretting passing them up.
