My guess is both.
The nearest dealer to me in Tampa complained that he’s at the end of the rep’s calling schedule so he never gets the very exclusive new releases like LFs. He knows JMMs will always sell so he just gets whatever is left over but if a new model comes out that I’m interested in or a hard to find model I know it’s a waste of time calling to see if he has it in. There’s also a limited network of stores who stock JMM. Some have more buying power eg over in the Miami area Edward Beiner has a chain of shops with a good variety in each. They also did a collab exclusive to their chain in marine blue. Didn’t get them as they were almost black to my eyes but I do have collabs made with Black Optical and Ottica Tuscana which also had exclusive cleaning cloths so I’m sure shops like those are at the top of the list.
Echo this, based on a visit to a local shop this past weekend. I saw two Ichikawa (black and beige) on the shelf and asked if they had a Sand. The employee said they received an Ichikawa Sand just two weeks ago with an initial shipment of 5 Ichikawa and sold the first 3 within two days, including the Sand. Apparently the buyer was shocked and thrilled to see it on the shelf, geeked out, and bought it immediately lol (I would have too!)
I asked how they were able to receive a Sand when it was so very rare and extremely hard to come by. He said "We opened Jacques Marie Mage. We were Jerome's very first account, so we sometimes get highly coveted frames first."
So it does sound like there's a non-public priority list of ADs for some of their frames.
