My guess is both.
The nearest dealer to me in Tampa complained that he’s at the end of the rep’s calling schedule so he never gets the very exclusive new releases like LFs. He knows JMMs will always sell so he just gets whatever is left over but if a new model comes out that I’m interested in or a hard to find model I know it’s a waste of time calling to see if he has it in. There’s also a limited network of stores who stock JMM. Some have more buying power eg over in the Miami area Edward Beiner has a chain of shops with a good variety in each. They also did a collab exclusive to their chain in marine blue. Didn’t get them as they were almost black to my eyes but I do have collabs made with Black Optical and Ottica Tuscana which also had exclusive cleaning cloths so I’m sure shops like those are at the top of the list.

Echo this, based on a visit to a local shop this past weekend. I saw two Ichikawa (black and beige) on the shelf and asked if they had a Sand. The employee said they received an Ichikawa Sand just two weeks ago with an initial shipment of 5 Ichikawa and sold the first 3 within two days, including the Sand. Apparently the buyer was shocked and thrilled to see it on the shelf, geeked out, and bought it immediately lol (I would have too!)

I asked how they were able to receive a Sand when it was so very rare and extremely hard to come by. He said "We opened Jacques Marie Mage. We were Jerome's very first account, so we sometimes get highly coveted frames first."

So it does sound like there's a non-public priority list of ADs for some of their frames.

Sometimes JMM will find an old frame socked away, or receive a NOS pair if part of a shipment was rejected or got held up. If they're not trying to keep it for the vault or something, they'll call their good accounts and see who wants it.

How do folks feel about TLF as clear opticals? I really been wanting Rawlins for sometime but idk how I feel about the ornamentation on the side arms…I do like to keep things clean and subtle ( says the guy with exposed wirecore on almost all his frames 😜) that said I do have a few TLF as sunglasses like Thundercloud which I find the ornamentation to be more simple and subtle in comparison but I don’t know many who use TLF as daily opticals even celebrities who you would think would wear them given their extravagant price tag and look at me ornamentation but nah not even Jason Momoa, his last frontier are sunnies (thundercloud and Sterett). The only celeb I know of that wears Last Frontier frames as opticals is Adam Goldberg of course, the Arkansas and the Pinedale in The Equalizer (and irl) … SO is it a bit too ostentatious or ? 🤔 just curious

I have LF Rawlins and they were supposed to be opticals but as I don’t wear glasses I put custom tints in. On one of the rare occasions of me seeing other JMMs in the wild, I got mine from Salle in Phipps Mall in ATL and at that time a fella came walking in wearing LF ls as opticals and went behind the counter then marched out with a new pair of LFs. I said something like “he must be a real fan eh?” And was told he’s a VIP customer who buys every pair of LFs as soon as they come in - again I assume as opticals.

So it’s not uncommon and I suppose depends on your style, hair length etc. If you’re a Jonny Depp type with straggly hair and festooned with chains, rings, necklaces etc they won’t really stand out. If on the other hand you’re style is like a member of Kraftwerk then they’d likely be a bit more obtrusive!😃😎

It depends( imo) …… if you have the confidence, then yeah but if you feel a bit self conscious then no. I thought about it at one point(Rawlins)but remembered I’m an old codger and it would be a bit ‘mutton dressed as lamb’

rawlins are a great shape, proportion, thickness, size for RX though.

I've kept my Rawlins as clear opticals. I don't use them as my dailies, but I do like to wear them as accessories for special occasions (e.g. nice dinners, birthday parties, events, etc). Personally, I think the LF sold as opticals are best as opticals (Rawlins, Dayton, etc.) and the ones sold as sunnies really are best used as sunnies (Thundercloud, Dakota, Sterett, etc.). Just mho

I was just turned away by JMM support for wanting to buy sunglass lenses for my JMM RX frames.

If they were identical lense size/shape 1:1, I have no idea why they'd turn away business. It makes me think that perhaps there is some difference in RX vs Sunglass frames?

You mean "my humble opinion", right?

Somewhat bizarre yes but not really surprising. Some companies will offer that service, and some won't. Not quite the same thing, but I got lucky when JMM immediately replaced my original Taos lenses FoC (free of charge) when I informed them that after cleaning the lenses for the first time the AR coating started to fall away. I had new lenses delivered to me in Oz in less than a week.

There is no difference between the RX and sun frames so you can forget that. You're honestly better off ordering custom lenses and getting exactly what you want as the stock sun lenses are not great quality anyway.
