Akila frames feel as cheap as they cost.
I don't agree. The acetate is not as dense and is more flexible than JMMs, but I don't look at that as a bad thing. Different qualities is all.
Random discussion but what is everyone’s thoughts on super light tints for indoor use? I’ve always been a clear for optical, dark for shades kind of guy, but given I have so many now I’m thinking of adding a few colors for more fun settings. Still likely won’t ever wear them in an office (I do consulting, not djing)
I have a 20% yellow tint on my optical Fellinis.

Not very noticeable. I didn't realize I've yellow undertones in my skin so there isn't much contrast.

May try pink next time my Rx changes.

Pics below

d4nimal also has light tinted Enzos, they're non-RX

I also strongly disagree with this. I think Akila represents a much better value for your dollars than JMM. Are they going to be as nice? Absolutely not. But you get a heck of a lot of frame for much, much less than a JMM frame.

Truthfully, sometimes the way we measure “nice” just means “less ergonomic because they are thick and heavy and hard to adjust well”. Thinner plastics don’t mean inherently lower quality. Before I got into glasses, I had a pair of Tom Davies glasses that I wore for 4-5 years almost every day and they still look almost new. The fact that some of our JMM glasses already start to look worn (internal letter fading) while being far less comfortable after just a few wears really challenges that idea of “nice”

No problem at all. They have a few frames that I would love as opticals (I don’t wear an Rx).

Effector is another made in Japan brand I purchased. Need new lenses in them, which I never got around to. Their quality is also similar to the Native Sons.

Know you’re in Minnesota, but this Canadian retailer might be worth a browse to find models that may jump out to you. Shipping may be a hassle internationally (I don’t know this for sure), but could see if there was a US retailer with models that you might like.

Thanks for the link. I’m on the lookout for the Effector Munakata or Native Sons Connolly. Both heavy acetate vibes but maybe without the physically heavy weight.

Excellent question. I’ve always been, like you, a clear optical and dark sunglasss feller myself. No more. I love doing subtle fashion tints with flash mirrors on photochromatic lenses. Best of everything. I’m a fat old retiree, so it probably looks stupid on me compared to you young whipper snappers, but i love the look nonetheless. Say la v as the French say. (Pretty sure that’s French.)

Edit: it’s cest la vei. Someone corrected me on that before. Sorry for the confusion.

Edit2: it’s C’est la vie.

Sir, you have so much pent-up rage. May I suggest taking up Brazilian jiu jitsu? or wrestling? It's never too late even at your age. Everyone on style forum is most likely living in excess. Look around! You have threads where people are showing off their latest and greatest bespoke suit, bespoke shoes, bespoke denim jeans, bespoke cashmere sweater, vintage flannel, and so on. I agree it's mind boggling to own 300 pairs of sunglasses, but Elton John probably has a ton more in his custom-made sunglass closet. You only have one life, just enjoy the ride and do what makes you happy as long as it doesn't hurt anyone. Right? I've complained about prices, JMM's quality control sucks lately, customer service is lacking. However, that doesn't deter me from buying from them again as some have stated here. I'll certainly be more mindful on what I want, but lord knows if they ever drop an Enzo in Cobalt, or a Rover Fade I will whip out my wallet and say, "just take my money".
I appreciate the suggestion. I really do, and it’s a good one. Buuut, I’m too fat and old. I’d probably break my neck in my first BJJ (Brazilian Jiu Jitsu) sparing session. I frequently wish would’ve taken up the martial arts as a younger feller but I didn’t. Ruefully, so many things interfered with me having the ability to take up any hobbies.

The right expression is c'est la vie. C'est francais.

Looks pretty similiar to what d4nimal did in the post I linked. Fairly subtle, I'd do it.

FWIW, my JMM dealer thought they look cool and was impressed with the build for price as well.

I recently tried the Fellini, I like the frame but I don't like any of the currently available colors.
When do they usually release new colors?

Go for it, if you like, probably only you will notice the difference.

Personally, I like light tints, like the Yellow, often used by JMM. They would be good for indoor use or outdoor by overcast weather.

Difficult to say, but, being the Fellini a great classic, it wouldn't be a very long wait, probably.

Edit: If you seek, you'll likely find also some older colouways which could appeal to you.

I've said this before, but I am compelled to share my thoughts about wearing JMM all the time since there is some typical collector BS talk going on - I wear my opticals basically for 16 hours a day, all day, every day, so like 2 years straight (unless I'm wearing my sunglasses).

Before it was the Yves frame (which I currently wear all the time), it was Torinos, and before that, many years of Dita (which is another brand I stan), and before those, and few options from moscot, oliver peoples, and tom ford.

I need to say, that despite the higher prices at the time in comparison to these other options, no brand has kept up with my daily thrashing (limited though it is), lasted me as long, or has been as durable, as JMM. Say what you will about the price, but I'm wearing these constantly, and the quality in materials, details, and craftsmanship really shows. In fact, most of my pairs are secondhand, and they've still outlasted many other brands that I've gotten new.

I don't switch out optical frames since switching between frames for long periods of time gives me a wicked headache. I do have a few sunglasses I'll cycle through, but not opticals. I think this gives me a different perspective on quality than some others here who cycle thru frames. While folks may think about quality in this way, they're not really putting their frames thru the paces. I liken this to Boot Guys who buy logger boots from PNW bootmakers and complain about stitching straightness or wtv. Your lifestyle is not gonna be anywhere near able to push those boots to their limits, relax.
