Back when I was working, I couldn’t even set my own price for my services….they were set for me by people who had no idea of my job. And it certainly NEVER went up by 32% for any reason…ever. And that included times of high inflation. Nay. I’ll say it again, nay. I can’t accept any reason for such obscene rapid price increase besides pure greed. Any other reason is a bunch of ding dang flim flam. As you can read, I’m still really riled up.

As annoying as it is, we can do little besides refusing to buy our favourite frames. These, as well as other luxury goods, seem to get even more coveted as the prices rise, also in relation to the fact that the brand gets wider popularity. Actually nobody needs to have one JMM frame, not to mention many: if we do, it means that we are willing to pay those prices.

There should be a tiered pricing system based on what prices were when a person first bought a JMM, and that price can be tied to inflation. If I bought my first frame at $565, then the price should stay there and only increase with inflation. This is fair and right. It’s the only solution I can think of.

It would be nice and fair, unfortunately totally idealistic and disconnected from the reality.

These price increases need to stop! Like right now! 32% increase in less than two years is horrid! Is there someone we can send a letter to? Can we circulate a petition? Someone at JMM needs to know how this is affecting their fans! They can’t just increase prices like this without giving an explanation! I’m so stressed out by this! If there’s a future frame that tickles my fancy, I won’t be able to justify the cost! This is wrong and unfair, especially to fans like me who have been loyal. I’ve been on this forum since oh about page 400!

I've gotten a bit obsessed with opticals of late. Just picked up Rivoli in Rose with amethyst transition lenses (pictured). I have Crevel in Noir with standard lenses on the way. Not sure if I regret forgoing transition or not, but the Crevel is an amazing frame; nice chunky acetate rims with titanium temples making them very light.

That’s not really “fair” as it’s not how the free market works with pretty much any item. It’s a good way for companies to go bankrupt as they lose competitiveness.

If a company chooses to adopt this strategy, great for them, but it’s likely going to be because the economics at $565 are extraordinarily good already. In JMM’s case, I imagine that the net profit is still relatively mediocre after you factor in retail location cost, marketing, and manufacturing - all paired with a still relatively low sales volume that hinders total revenue. I’m not saying the company is in the red (I doubt it - but who knows), but I don’t think any eyeglass company is able to scale revenue as easily as a tech company.

Thank you for the response. I understand where you’re coming from. However, I bought a pair of glasses from Costco with essilor gen 8 trans lenses for $110. There’s no way that a JMM frame, even with better material and Japanese workmanship and labor, costs 8-9x more. There is obscene profit in there even if supply and demand supports it. I’m one of the last red blooded balls to the wall American patriots in these here United States of America, but I just can’t get behind that kind of capitalistic greed.

zonda600, welcome to our insanity, and before you second guess your collection of eyewear, remind yourself that you’re not obsessed with collecting sports cars (at least,I am unaware of such a collection), high end wristwatches, expensive jets or yachts. Really, purchasing classic eyewear makes such great sense: you wear it on your face where clients, family and friends can see them front and center on that great face of yours, and being able to change them out to wear with different articles of clothing is completely reasonable.

The Rivoli looks so good on you, it is a frame to invest in, and it is a keeper. It looks terrific today, and will continue to look terrific 20 years hence.

Great looking frames on you, enjoy them!

Would you sell the Dealan fatigues you bought for $795 to me for $795 plus inflationary increase? Thank you.
