Jacket with Piped Lapels?

I tried doing a search but couldn't really come up with an answer. To what kind of occasion would wearing a navy jacket/blazer with piped lapels be appropriate? Since it's not an orphaned suit jacket, it seems like it would be an alternative to the "typical" navy blazer with brass buttons.

Is this major faux paus and/or much too "costume-y" of a jacket to be wearing to dinner for example?

Looks great if you're a Wimbledon line judge or a sixth form prefect. Other than that as you say, a bit costumey.
