I was just wondering the best way to go about getting your jacket size/determing what measurements will look best on you.

Obviously, using the general sizing is one way to go, but it seems similar to shoes not all 40r jackets are the same. So, how can I go about figuring out the exact numbers I need to purchase the best fitting jacket.

Is this something I can do at home? What measurements are needed? Also, how do you determine what length is best for you?

I am 5'8.5 ft bare foot.

Thanks for your help.

I don't really trust myself or my roommate/friends to measure properly.
I suggest go to a tailor or a S&K/Men's Wearhouse at least

Best is to go to a good tailor and ask him to measure you

At your height you should probably try on both short and regular length jackets in a particular line as well.

To Op - it's all going to depend on your size and the brand. A 40R for Brooks isn't necessarily the same fit as a 40R in Armani. There's no simple way to figure it out, other than try a lot of stuff on.
