Another way to make the point. If the pocket is 10” from the armhole and 10” from the hem, it’s balanced half way between the two points. You can shorten the hem 1/2” without making it look off To the point of looking awkward.

Have never used the formula of measuring from the edge of the under collar to the floor and dividing.

Could have asked the tailor to baste or pin the jacket 1” shorter before doing anything permanent. Would give you a visual of the change before committing to an amount To shorten the jacket. Easy to do, takes less than 10 minutes to do this.
Big difference of the two jackets is where the bottom button aligns with the lower pockets. The lower button on the beige jacket is on a horizontal line with the top of the pocket flap. Th e button on the blue jacket is about 3/4” lower than the pocket flap. This is a benefit to the beige jacket and is a problem with the blue one. The beige will look better balanced.
Will repeat what I said earlier. The distance from the pocket to the hem doesn’t make a difference. How the pocket placement on the body of the jacket is determined matters. Try to keep it placed half way between the bottom of the armhole and the hem to look balanced or within a 1/2” of that mid point.

Yes indeed, it was pinned before alteration, as far as I can say my tailor placed it at 1.5 which was a lot and compromised the balance, at half it was still better and similarly at 1 inch it was balanced hence I went with 1.

Thank you for your valuable advice! Indeed, as far as I can say I did try the formula with another jacket and it worked my jacket length is 29 and similarly I did the same from the collar to the floor and dividing and it equaled the same.

Yes indeed, it was pinned before alteration, as far as I can say my tailor placed it at 1.5 which was a lot and compromised the balance, at half it was still better and similarly at 1 inch it was balanced hence I went with 1.

I am sorry, but I think this jacket doesn't fit you at all.
First and foremost - the sleeves are way too long, like 4-5cm too long.
Second - it seems to be a fuller cut jacket, and you seem to have a slim body type, so it's too wide around the waist and too tight on your back, you can see stretch lines there.
It also seems to be disproportionate and those hard pressed lapels are just yet another thing that's off

I have a 38 chest which corresponds with the jacket being 38, the sleeves were altered long ago, I wouldn’t say I’m slim but not baggy either so I do agree somewhat with what you said.
