I asked them this once- the salesman told me that there was "no glue" in anything. I did the pinch test on a few items, and none were canvassed. On one navy blazer, in fact, the chest even appeared to be fused. The lowest two lines are certainly not canvassed- the upper one may be. I don't think the guy meant to be misleading, but rather just thought that their clothing couldn't possibly contain glue.

The top line (Pressidential) is canvassed.

None of them are fully canvassed unless they're old, old stock still on the rack for some reason.

The trick is to identify the maker:

The lowest line - "pressclusive" are nearly always made by S.Cohen in Canada and fully fused, though they may have chestpieces. Just because there is a chestpiece doesn't mean the same thing as half canvas.

The made in USA suits, often labeled "presstige" or "pressidential" are by Southwick usually and half canvassed. Some of the "presstige" line is actually made by Cohen and is fused with a chestpiece but not half canvassed. I bought a blazer recently (the $525 one) and it is made by Cohen and has this construction (fused).

My Press 3-button tropical wool suit is fully fused, made in canada, and a great garment with very soft shoulders. Only suit I ever paid full retail for ($600).

I'm glad to see this forum, because I'm quite satisfied with my older J. Press suits from about 12 years ago, but the past 3 or 4 years especially, many of the made in Canada ones feel stiff as a board in the shoulders, and I suspected they are fused.....I also am fine in a 43L in the older suits, but need a 44L in the newer ones because they grab me in the shoulders....freedom of movement is not as good...also, I notice bubbling in the seams between the shoulder and the neck in the newer suits...the tailor even frowned to the salesman 2 years ago in New Haven when I point that out as if saying 'See!' but the salesman shook it off...

Last night I performed au autopsy on my circa 2006 Presstige that had grown old and tired. Turns out it was fully canvassed. [IMG]
