This kind of promotion is popular in Japan, where it's ALWAYS a great thing. All kinds of stores, from Starbucks to big clothing retailers, have mystery bags with really nice things, not just old clearance items. Since J. Press is owned by a Japanese company, I don't think it's so farfetched that this might be in that vein.

Their prices are already inflated. You're likely to get a half-canvassed (or fused) suit/SC with the $500 pack bundled with scarves/ties in the colors of universities you didn't attend. Good deal if you're really into J. Press, but otherwise I would just wait for a sale or buy on B&S/eBay.

Edit: This is especially true if you are a common size such as 40R. You'll get the weird regatta stripe suits that nobody wants.

All pure speculation, of course.

according to the website, they will contact you to obtain your sizing details once an order is placed.

This is a very, very stupid idea. Absolutely a way to get rid of stuff that no one would select on their own. Also, the old maxim suggests you should never buy something just because it's on sale--if you like it, and it happens to be on sale, then you have a win. This turns that logic on its head and suggests you'll buy anything as long as its on sale.

Epic Fail.

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
