J. Crew's lofty shirt claim??

I don't know if anyone has seen this before, but J. Crew makes a claim that some influentual Italian house recommends their tailored fit shirts:

How do they make this claim if they only offer a tailored-fit dress shirt in S/M/L sizing. I might give it a whirl if it was available in neck and sleeve specific sizing. You know, like other tailors?

I own one dress shirt from J Crew in a Medium. It does drape well and is slim fitting but it doesn't match the quality of my Tyrwhitt and Thomas Pink shirts.

I wear their sport shirts, and like them. I won't even consider wearing their dress shirts.

Given the low esteem in which I and many other forum members hold Tyrwhitt, that's hardly a ringing endorsement for J. Crew.

It's odd to me that some here (not most) will embrace H&M or Zara, when these J. Crew shirts are clearly the better value. Where do most forum members go for basic shirts? I mean, I can't imagine that most members here spend over $100+ for every shirt in their closet.

Some of us do. For a few years, my shirts were made by WW Chan which, for most of that time, was over $100. Recently, I've switched to Hamilton for shirts, and theirs run around $300, depending on the fabric.

Interesting. How many shirts do you own and how on average how often is each shirt worn? I realize I'm totally going off topic in my own post, but I don't recall a thread discussing this

I'll pay a premium for hard-to-find basics (white semi-spread, for example), and for shirts I really like. But I try to shop sales, and I mix in more affordable casual shirts. Some of my favorite summer shirts are a linen-cotton blend from Old Navy. Wish I'd bought more when I found them a few summers ago.

I own about 5 J. Crew dress shirts. The fit is pretty good, and since I picked them up for $25 a piece at the outlet, they were definitely worth the money. I do not like them as much as my paul smith, armani or dolce, but I paid a lot more for them.

My biggest beef is that the buttons seem to be of exceptionally poor quality.

+1, and wear some of their button-down collar dress shirts as sport shirts. I prefer them to CT. (I've only bought both on clearance.)

Twenty-four at last count. On average, then, each shirt gets worn once a month. Barring any horrific stains, each shirt should be good for several years of service.
