Awhile back, I had mentioned I was waiting for this coat to go on sale, as all J. Crew things do eventually: [IMG] Well, they surprised me by opening up their sale before Christmas (is this a trend?). It's down to $150 from $300. Also, "4444" at checkout got me $20 off. I checked out the coat in-store a couple weeks ago. It's a wool blend, I think like 80 wool/20 nylon or something, so it's not the most excellent fabric. The cut is very nice, and I really liked the way a size large fit me - they don't have numerical sizes - I'm generally a 42R. I'm not sure how well it would function over a suit, as it fit me in the shoulders only a tad looser than a suitjacket. The coat is a subtle black/charcoal herringbone, the overall effect is charcoal. It's a perfect replacement for the BR black coat I had a few years ago, but I'm not sure how great it would be as an overcoat. If someone wants to jump in and define overcoat vs. topcoat, and explain why this item is neither, feel free. [IMG] I also called the local bricks and mortar J Crew, and they said they do not honor website prices in store. This also means that I won't be watching the cotton Victoria Grantham coat on ebay from eDealstyle. It's listed as a 44, but the measurements sound like they'd fit smaller.

I ordered this coat last weekend.  I just called J Crew.com and they gave me a price adjustment. Thanks for the sale info.

Glad to hear they gave you the break. Last year I ordered a jacket on sale for $100, it didn't fit, and they let me exchange - for the same item in a different size, still marked $250 - in store with absolutely no trouble.

Of course, I think that they should hav consistent prices in store and online, that's kind of crappy.

JCrew's website/catalog and stores are run as allied, but separate business. At least it was that way a few years ago.

I had a casual winter coat from there which did good service. I kicked around in it for 2 or 3 years in college and it held up very well.
