Well I'm pretty much done for this season. If I can be arsed I'll post some comments since I bought a ton and must have tried on 90% of all their sweaters. Anyway, a quick tip. It's still 50% off sale in store. My local stores are gutted in terms of sale inventory, but they will call online for you and online with honor the 50% off the online sale price and give you free shipping. If they have the item in store and it's cheaper than online, then you can get that price plus the 50% off and free shipping. You can get some great deals going this route.

I'm done for the season too. At least. I might be done with the Crew for a while aside from perhaps that popover shirt. It's all getting a little too samey, cubicle prep for me. I want to get into slightly more rugged things, more workwear looking.

I got some staple items from the last week. Surprisingly the ones around me (Los Angeles area) still had a lot of decent items in good sizes. I picked up some Harris Tweed jackets for 50% off the lowest price and another 15% off for student discount. I also picked up this shirt yesterday during lunch break. I spent almost the same amount on the lunch itself.

Links to my other on sale pick ups, don't wan to clutter the thread with many pics:

Haha. I picked up all three of the sale Harris Tweed blazers. Sadly no student discount for me though. Still at 50% off the sale price and free shipping I'll take them. For now my list is too extensive, but one of the best pickups I made was this Filson bag:

    https://www.jcrew.com/mens_feature/.../08876.jsp?isSaleItem=false&isFromSearch=true

50% off the promo price for $149 plus tax and free shipping.

With the popover discussion, I'm fine with it in a short-sleeve version. Now that I've slimmed down some I might try one this Summer.

They're still good for more rugged items and workwear. I'd start with this:

    https://www.jcrew.com/mens_feature/...~~~/06871.jsp?isSaleItem=true&isFromSale=true

Very soft, a lot of weight to it and even has the anchor buttons which are identical to the WWM versions I have from two years ago. This one is nice too, but I may want to switch out the navy buttons:

    https://www.jcrew.com/mens_category/WallaceBarnes/PRDOVR~03067/03067.jsp

I'd also have a look at the Chamois'. Great shirt IMO. Just about anything Wallace and Barns fits this category. Skiff jacket is another piece, especially in Olive.

Apart from Crew you can try RRL. Best is to call stores. It's overrated and inconsistent from piece to piece in my limited experience this season, but when they get it right it's great. Also have a look at Gentry NYC's site. Post Overalls and a few other brands at good discounts. Great customer service from them too.

How easy is it for a person to call in an order for some Aldens and get a current discount, even if it shows excluded online? I need a pair in my life.

I've had luck getting a discount both in person and on the phone, never through chat / email. I'm at about 30% success rate.

    Good luck!

You could always find an employee that you know to get them for you. Employees are allowed to buy "gifts". They have to pay for them themselves however.

Good to know. Now I just have to find someone that works there. Isn't there a few members here that do? My closest J crew is a little over an hour away, & haven't been there. Reason being is I moved from Iowa, where there was 1 store about 2 hours away. I just buy online.

Just an update, I called and talked to the store, they didn't have any discounts they could set me up with, even after telling them I planned to make a fairly large order(certainly not a humble brag, just wanted to give them the facts, as maybe it would help)

I called the 800#, and after some checking and tweaking, the lovely lady on the phone set me up with the 20% off for the 2 day sale. I'll have the Longwing Blucher in Tobacco coming. Really wanted some shell#8, but finding them on any sort of sale would be more rare than getting this discount I only presume...

I didn't want the black cadet bluchers. That's all that I saw on their website for shell cordovan other than the boots & chukkas.

Is it the case that the shoes you eventually ordered were not eligible for the 20% off?

Essentially yes. The lady on the phone said it applied to all regular priced items, then she went to add it on the website & it didn't let her. She then did some other checking on her computer on another spot & it let her apply the discount. It took a few mins, but well worth the 20% off of them. Now if the LWB was available in the #8 with J Crew that would have been fantastic.

If you open a J. Crew card, they apply a discount for absolutely everything.

While on the subject, anyone ever had a student discount applied in store after ordering Aldens online (or just ordering through the store)?

Many of the Aldens are on the exclusion list, meaning that they are unavailable for discounted purchase by employees.

In that case, the best they can do is purchase a gift card on your behalf at 30% discount and then you can use the gift card to buy your Aldens.
