Yeah, whats the deal? The ones in the pictures look like they've been worn for a week.
If I was in the market for this type of shoe, I think I'd go this route: http://www.unionmadegoods.com/Alden_...29332_217.html

seriously? jcrew just raised their price on stanton pants from $69 -> $75.

Thanks in part to unrest in Egypt the price of cotton has shot up.

They have had these in store for a few weeks - the store models aren't pre scuffed. Given that the soles were worn in the photos, it looks like J Crew literally had a guy wearing them and scuffing them on purpose for a while. I would guess they aren't sold that way

that's the real reason behind it? so that means the stanton pant has a better cotton than the regular chinos? i thoght it's just the wash and dye that costs more.

    but after all [IMG]

    quote from the jcrew description:

Today's suede shoe feels more laid-back: We like them when they're scuffed up a bit and worn without socks. (Don't be fooled by the low-key feel: These are definitely built to last.)

Thanks for the intel. I sure hope not -- Crew does have a track record of doing that to perfectly fine garments & footware, like this Quoddy moc http://www.jcrew.com/mens_feature/th...0841/30841.jsp and the Russell 3 eyelet chukka they were selling for a while that seems to have disappeared from the site http://www.jcrew.com/mens_feature/in...ny/Russell.jsp

By the way, Crew has these Quoddys on sale for $199.99 (that's 2009 prices! [IMG] ) in size 9H (9.5) http://www.jcrew.com/AST/Navigation/...~~~~/30841.jsp and Danner Mountain Light IIs in several sizes for $268 http://www.jcrew.com/AST/Navigation/...~~~~/30910.jsp

Nice bucks from Alden. But they appear to be pre-scuffed. I wish they wouldn't do that.

What the hell are they doing? Scuffing the soles, too? $400 shoes need to be broken in by the wearer. What a joke.

I got a medium Merino half-zip sweater. Anyone know a such fire way to shrink it a tad?

FYI they have had them there for a few months now. In January they had the coniston boot and a short wing that I can't remember the name of. They look good IRL.

No, they don't come as shown. J Crew has taken to showing how the shoes look with a little wear on them...which is sort of cool but also sort of misleading if you don't know that.

    Oh, nevermind then... [IMG]

Actually, it's kind of funny and odd that they choose to show them that way. I find it a little over the top ridiculous myself.
