I just checked the J Crew website, and they actually recommends size M for those with 38-40 chest. That might explain why the M has some breathing room for me while the S is kind of tight (to the extent that I can actually kind of feel the shirt pressing against me).
Nah, they are different. Your stats(10'' drop) suggest that you have a much more athletic build than I do. Strange enough, I don't find the chest tight. But as you mentioned, I do find that some shirts tend to have special wrinkles around the 2nd button. I own a medium j.crew and actually swim in it. Not sure if it's because it runs big than normal mediums (it's a flannel). Overall, I like how smalls fit on me.

No jokes, but doesn't white pants go with everything? Well, maybe except for white shirts (too matchy-matchy).

I was thinking one of these. Which one is best?

personally, I prefer the Secret Wash lightweight point-collar shirt in medium gingham. I own the faded-navy one, so I might be biased.

This pretty much sums it up. Next question.

Not sure I would wear a solid black or brown shirt with white pants, but overall just about anything would go with them.

When I can't make a decision, I buy both, LOL.
If you have a difficulty picking one out of two, it simply means that they are equally good.

OK, no jokes, I do prefer the gingham. I'm ginghammania.

IMO, the Martin & Osa shirts are crap. The fabric flat-out sucks.

Plaids, ginghams, and faded oxfords go great with light pants for spring. I'm regularly wearing a few of the madras shirts with white jeans. Went out for dinner at a semi-dressy place and I wore a pink oxford with white jeans and blue blazer.

For all those that are wondering about sizing, you'll never know unless you try it out yourself. Some people have matching measurements and height/weight yet one will say S and another will say M. Plus there's no accounting for what each individual considers "fitting properly".

If there's not a store nearby, wait for a free-shipping deal. If free ship isn't avail, order the M. If it's too big, get it tailored, sell it NWT for a small loss, or just treat it as a learning experience.

I'd wear the vintage coastal blue chambray and some desert boots.

Does anyone have a pair of the sun faded urban slim stanton's? I'm looking into buying my first pair of JCrew Chinos and the idea of a very soft breathable pant sounds appealing.. but I NEED it to be as slim as possible. Is this the slimmest pant that they make?? http://bit.ly/dgzgJ9

Ok I've decided to get the lightweight medium gingham in Baltic. Can't wait for spring. Hopefully, I'll find it in the store. I don't feel like paying 14 extra dollars for it.
