Does anyone have any opinions on J. Crew's jeans? The only other thread that popped up was about 3-4 years old, so I'd like to know if there are fresher opinions.

Alternatively, where is the best place in NYC to shop for denim - a place with a wide variety of makers and styles?

They're junk.

Go to Blue in Green for denim.

Another vote for Blue in Green for New York denim. I'm a Dior snob, so they have great jeans at their boutique too but well over priced.

I'll go against the grain... They're not junk, decent in fact. This is relative of course, they're great for mall brand but they're not on par with $300 denim which I think the others are unfairly comparing them to.

J. Crew has stepped up their game over the past couple years, now with selvedge and some nice cuts. If you like the fit, it feels good, and you like the price go for it.

99% of people out there are not going to know what brand you're wearing, they'll only see how it looks.

I have generally heard decent things about the quality of J. Crew jeans. Nothing to be fanatic about but I imagine if you can find some on sale it may be worth pulling the trigger.

I guess my quesiton was whether they are worth the money - are they 1/3 to 1/2 as good as $300 jeans? How will they hold up over time compared with the more niche makers' products?

I'm a fan of the 484 slim fit but only have bought it in cords... Somewhere between a levi's 514 and 511.

Is there a reason you posted this in Men's Clothing and not in Streetwear & Denim?

They'll last longer than the current style will. Jeans are hard to kill. I don't think I've ever thoroughly wore a pair out.

Are they a 1/3 as good as some niche Made in USA/Japan jeans? No, far better than 1/3 IMO.

Are they 3 times as good as Levi's? Probably not.

I have premium jeans and cheap jeans they're all similar, sure the Made in USA of Japanese selvedge with chainstitching are nice but if they don't fit as well as my cheaper Levi's then what is the point?

The vast majority of jeans out there will last. Finding some that fit you well and that you LOVE is most important. Whether they're $50, $100, $300 only matters to your wallet.

The price difference here does not reflect on fit or long term durability.

If you LOVE the J. Crew ones buy them and enjoy them they'll last longer than you'll want to wear them for.
