Thanks

Go to the store and try them on, hard to say

I'm not sure the officer's chinos would be the best for business casual. They've got that vintage, broken-in look and the hems and pocket edges typically show some light fraying. It wouldn't make a very polished business casual look. I'd consider some of the other chino styles. Same with the secret wash shirts. Once they're washed they stay on the soft, broken-in side and have a more casual look to them. I suppose you could press them, but that goes against their nature. If you like J.Crew's cut, I'd instead consider their affordable tailored cut dress shirts. At that price point you'll have lots of options if you widen your search to other brands.

+1

The classic essential might be your best bet for business casual. They're slim enough but not awkward looking. And you can always get them tapered a little if you need to.

The outlets that I've been to have had really solid collections of pinpoint dress shirts that are usually on sale for a price comparable to their oxfords and other casual buttondowns (~$20 on sale, less if you have a student ID you can get ahold of). If you need to stock up for work, the trip could be worthwhile. They're cut the same.

edit: and I agree with everyone, stick with the essential chinos for work.

I agree with what everyone is saying. If you check their sales right now they have a ton of suit pants on sale for ~$70. Once you factor in the extra 20% off and free shipping they're a pretty good deal.

Depends on the business setting and what your business considers dressy and casual. They're about all I wear to work, and I work for a Federal agency. I usually wear them with a l/s secret wash shirt or a lightwt poplin l/s. Then again I dress better than 90 percent of the peope I work with, including the Director.

I have a couple essential chinos that I'll wear too, and by comparison to the officers, they feel almost too business-like for my environment, in almost a dorky "cubicle" worker kind of way.

I think if you want to be somewhat distinctive and stand out a bit from the regular khaki crowd, go with the officers.

Another option is the broken-in chino, which is somewhere between the officers and essential.

There really do feel to be a bunch of variations of business casual. I work with a primarily khakis and collars crowd (bunch of engineers), IE as long as the shirt has a collar and the pants are something that isn't jeans, all is well. So basically anything I wear looks good comparatively.

Then again, dress not for the job you have, but for the job you want.

So then I need to dress in ill-fitting JC Penney slacks and white shirts. No, I won't do it.

How do the classic fit Irish linen cotton pant fit in relation to the Classic fit essential chinos? I'm guessing the same?

http://www.jcrew.com/AST/Browse/Mens...~~~~/15398.jsp

I have an all-white party coming up in a few weeks and don't have any white pants so I figured these would work well and I don't want to take a chance with bisque.

Any suggestions on what to wear to an all-white party? I'm not particularly a fan of that type of dress code but what can I do... Only white shoes I have are Purcell's so hopefully those are good enough to wear to it because I don't have money for some white loafers or bucks.

Yes, they fit about the same in the waist, but feel slightly baggier in the leg.

As for the whites, yeah, rock the Purcells and wear a really nice shirt -- or white tie, on the off chance ...

Thanks! Gonna take advantage of this extra 20 while I'm at it. Gotta get em taken up in the inseam so I might get them tapered as well if that isn't too expensive.
