If I had gotten so bored of a regular tux that I needed to differentiate, maybe. I really can't imagine wearing one often enough to make that happen. I'm just going to assume this is just the way the author draws pockets for everybody. Patch pockets seem totally contradictory on a dinner jacket.

The artist does comics, not fashion illustrations. Jetted pockets only on a dinner jacket.

Weird thing is, you could show a dinner jacket with patch pockets to a group of 1,000 people and probably not one of them would notice anything was off about it.

One of my favorites. I meant to put the link on the image but forgot, thanks for adding it.

I'm going to launch a clothing line based entirely on the wardrobe of the Archie Comics cast.

Plaid shirts, jeans, varsity jackets..it'll be a hit.

Oh wait.

I used to peruse comic books with some regularity about 20 years ago--I had a favorite young cousin who was a comic book fanatic. One thing I noted was that the illustrators almost invariably made a horrible screw-up of men's formal and semi-formal wear--probably no experience save for a Prom Night rental!

In the golden olden days a whole lot of things happened that people today have no clue about. It is an outdoor setting and patch pockets would be perfect.

What is perfect today is the narrow mindedness because of lack of history knowledge. You guys need to lighten up and enjoy life. So run to your tailors and get a proper tux for this kind of outdoor setting. You don't want to be improperly dressed. In the past there were many reasons for this and that and sometime they were a one time fling. If you have the money and friends with money you can create the reasons.whatever you want. You must remember, there are general rules, but who uses them all the time? So there are the non general rules. Therefore the picture above is perfect.
