Every time I see a picture of beat-up Katahdins it only cements my resolve to purchase a pair this winter. Wow.

So I just purchased the dark brown (right) Abington guide boots from Proper, they'll be here in a few days. Maybe a bit hasty since I won't really be wearing them for a while, but decision made. Thanks again for all the input!

I would pick up red wings if they had my size..

Good choice on the Katahdins, you will not be dissapointed with them.

I use Obenauf's Heavy Duty LP on almost all my leather goods and I love the stuff. Never used the rest of their products myself. I would just buy a tub of the LP and you should be good to go. I gave my boots a good coating, waited a few days and then did it again. Don't forget to use some on the welt, I let that go last winter and the welt got really dry. A heavy coating recently restored it fairly well though but preventative maintenance is always best.

Post some pictures when you get them. I have a hunch their photography is a little deceiving.

Thoughts on Kiwi products? They're the closest product available for my boots (at Wal-Mart).

^ I considered those, a good choice, but they are too clunky and $285 is too much imo. I tried them on at Nom de Guerre. I liked the Abingtons more. They have sleeker silhouette and smooth leather. Also, they were $180.

nocoolonesleft, is it my imagination or has the toe box flattened a lot on your pair of katahdin boots compared to how they come?

I think LL Bean has been making them for over 10 years so those look like they could be an older version.
