No its not. The aquatic section just put a hold on all the raises until june (were originally done in march) my 1.50 raise wont be given to me until at least june now.

from 8.30 to 9.80 due to the economic crisis. If I dont get it before the summer that sucks alot since I would be losing about $50 a week.

All human services oriented charities are feeling the pinch right now. It sucks, but it's not a high-demand field.

I am certified as a lifeguard, but I do swim instructing as well to people of all ages, and with disabilities. Pretty much doing it for the money, as well as its a pretty dam fun job.

I was formerly a Senior Program Director at the YMCA in Phoenix and previously served as the Chairman of the Board for one of the local branches.

Unfortunately, it is one of the most poorly run, top-heavy, bloated charities with which I have ever been involved.

I am not surprised that your raise is being delayed, however, the fact that you still have a job is probably because at least in your position they need to keep the pool covered for liability purposes.

At my old branch, we cut the fitness center attendants in half, took front-desk staff to a minimum and when that didn't work doubled up the duties of the program directors (i.e. combining Youth Sports and Aquatics and Membership & Health & Fitness) and then they eventually cut my position.

Of course the Association Staff were spared all of this. The cuts in our Association were all done at the lowest levels which seems questionable for a group predicated on member service and whose problems were mostly caused by a loss of members - members who might have stayed had they received better treatment.

The YMCA of America is an incredibly insular organization that is unwilling to listen to ideas developed outside of the organization and highly resistant to change.

The YMCA is a very igonrant organization, but I work at the Eastern Union County Branch. Includes Rahway YMCA, Five Points in Union, NJ and Elizabeth, NJ Y. How about you?

As for your post singhstyle, mines part of the Glen Cove YMCA.

Dam. lol ours is completley different. Then again I am one of the higher ranked people so I have a pretty big say there. The YMCA I work at is pretty much run by the aquatics staff. I wouldnt be suprised if 90% of the revenue is from us, our classes have on average of at least 10-15 people and lap swim is always packed. I feel like they had no choice but to not fire anyone and just delay the raises. Im sorry for your experience at your YMCA though.
