I'll be moving to Milan in a few weeks. I'm familiar with Prada, Gucci, Armani and other well known Italian brands. Any suggestions for other names, less known internationally? Good departement stores, if there are any?

If you're looking for a dash of color, you might want to visit Etro. They're based in Milan, and have a couple of stores there. Their website, www.etro.it, provides the street addresses, and not much else. What little I have of their stuff - mostly sourced from eBay - is excellent. There might be companies with better materials or designs, but Etro'll give you some idea of what's out there, at least. Plus, they make a nice change from Armani's horrible 'greige' color, which has never appealed to me in the slightest. I've uploaded some random images of their wares, here, here, here, here, here and here. Fingers crossed the links work... One caveat - you probably have to really dig stripes or paisley. If you have the lire (excuse me, Euros) to burn, I highly, highly recommend you visit D. Caraceni's store. His suits are the best in the world, IMO.
