Interested in getting a pair of "italian" (i think) style hiker boots, love the look of the paraboot avoriaz and the viberg hiker but was curious if anyone had experience with either from a comfort/build/aesthetic perspective (i live in a city and these are not going to get much actual hiking use) - also open to other brands but in my search the danner and diemme options look marginally more "clunky" and not sure where else to look

Paraboot is probably way better option for what you get for the price. Another French brand Heschung is doing that style as well.

I own paraboot avoriaz and viberg pachena bay boots.

The vibergs are sturdier, much heavier, use thicker leather, and are marginally more comfortable once broken in. Build quality is slightly better on vibergs.

The paraboots are way more elegant. They have a narrow profile while still accommodating for a wider foot. Im a 10.5E brannock and I took a uk 9 which ended up breaking in perfectly width wise after a few casual wears.

I find myself wearing the paraboots more often because they aren’t as hefty visually as the vibergs. The paraboots are definitely flashier, but they seem to blend into outfits better given the profile.

Both are fantastic boots, and i reluctantly will be selling the vibergs to make some space (stamped size 10 ;))

You’ll just need to consider the outfits you’ll be wearing them with (PNW rugged vs “urban hiker”, respectively) any go from there

The Paraboot Avoriaz have been on my wishlist for a while, they look great and considerably better than the Vibergs IMO. That being said, I was never impressed with the leather in my Michaels, but at the same time the extra “quality” in the Vibergs wouldn’t be a factor.

Because I wasn’t fully sold on a hiking boot at Paraboot or Viberg prices I almost got a pair of Sendra Milles a few months ago, a fraction of the price of those but still goodyear welted.

Very different style but I also like the Guidi ones quite a bit.

Edit: damn, I just realized this is an old thread!

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
