I guess I'm trying to stay in the box with a little flair but not too far to the left. The young lady in the picture makes the hat pop and she looks much better than I.

If you are really serious, and want to know what is "in fashion", boaters have been out since the Panama became the go-to summer hat oh, 80 or so years ago.
If you are wondering if you can pull something off, that usually means the answer is no.
OTOH, if you are thinking of wearing this with your seersucker suit for the Kentucky Derby, I say go for it. You can certainly get away with it there.

I think I will do it. I tried it today with a windowpane suit and a bow tie. I received several complements and plan to merge the boater into my spring and summer wardrobe.

Many thanks to all,

You go bro'! There is an amazing selection of boaters on eBay including some classic straw weaves. I haven't worn one since school days and my old school deleted them 20 years ago.

Too Dick Van Dyke for me.

OK, I'll say it: it falls squarely in the "costume" category.

True, not even rowers in Venice or at Henley Royal Regatta wear them anymore...

Lol, come on gentlemen !!! I've got thick skin. It's OK... I believe that we can all agree that it's a thing from days gone by but it's a little different and at some point it may even come back in style. Again, I wore one to church on Sunday and received several complements.

Kind regards,
