1. And... we're back. You'll notice that all of your images are back as well, as are our beloved emoticons, including the infamous :foo: We have also worked with our server folks and developers to fix the issues that were slowing down the site.

There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

I know I will get a lot of hate for this, but if you need to have shoes resoled then you should not have bought them to start with.

This idea of Goodyear welting being such a great thing as it facilitates resoling is BS AFAIC.

If the soles on your shoes gave up then buy new shoes because the upper will have been gone by that time too (please lets not waist time talking about patinas when the uppers are creased and have lost their original qualities/beauty)

The need to resole is what people who really appreciate shoes live for: a bona fide reason to buy a new pair-not just addiction

PS: EG has been supped up in this forum to high heaven, it is about time a healthy attitude adjustment took place

sooo, you think the resoled old shoes pictured in this thread, that their uppers are done for? perhaps you are on a dial-up and are waiting for the pics to load. when they finish loading, take a look and you can revise your post.

Sorry for taking the bait Gents.
She should be exposed for what she is...a coward.
Probably enjoyed getting her a-- kicked in the locker room after gym class.
Wonder when she will be celebrating her sweet sixteen.

Moreover i would like use my short remaining life time to re-affirm some opinions from personal experience

-if u see shoes as utilitarian objects u are in the wrong forum
-this forum is full of shills for high end shoe companies-so please read everything with this in mind
-Alfred Sargent handgrades are a scam to sell you ordinary shoes with extra aesthetical features for an extraordinary price
-John Lobb is better than the plebeian EG
    -C&J is overrated
-This forum lacks any real knowledge about the other half of the shoe industry (Italy)

    wtf are u talking about?

are u referring to "fairies"?? that is a term of endearment regarding these two assholes i have had the unfortunate experience of dealing with. I could have used other adjectives-nothing specific about the fairy thing

I could just as well have called them lowlifes, frauds, cowards etc

no homo/anti-homo here my friend-i couldn't care less about who they fuck/are fucked by -I just want to be left alone when i dissent from little tyrants

I don't think Osborn has been banned. Expressing non-SF approved sartorial views should indeed not get you banned.

I didn't realize this was a real question or that a response was needed now that the thread appears to have been hijacked. Unless you are my dad, and I am certain you are not, these are not your old shoes. Now, maybe you had a similar pair of shoes? I don't know, but I have not bought used shoes from you and if I had they were not these as I have had them for quite some time.
I didn't mean anything ill-willed. Just that my first pair of EGs were made for Polo and were the Falkirk with the signature exposed metal eyelets. I bought them for $10 on ebay some years ago. I sold them to someone here. What size are they? If US 13D and the last info says something like SZ0 or something like that they were definitely mine [IMG]. I miss them.

I never thought there was any ill will intended, rather, I assumed you had an identical pair to mine and that is what you meant. Most of what I wrote was sarcastic and intended to express my displeasure with the fact that the thread had been hijacked by some trolls, taking away from the otherwise interesting dialogue that had been occurring.

These are a US size 9E so quite a ways away from the 13's you wear. They are also not by Ralph Lauren, but for the moment it escapes me whose name was inside them since Edward Green replaced the original insole--it might have been Cole Haan or something like that. I wrote Edward Green, based on information I had read on SF, and told them I was reasonably confident that they had made them for whoever it was. They agreed and said I could send them to them, which I did, obviously.

My dad gave these to me as my first pair of nice shoes, which is why I wanted them restored as best as was possible. Truthfully, they don't even fit me anymore, but they were MY FIRST PAIR OF NICE SHOES! Contrary to dissenting opinions others have more recently expressed, there are many reasons one might want shoes recrafted and, regardless of what anyone says, the patina that devolped on these is something to behold in person. No new pair of shoes I have comes close to the depth in the color on these. Anyone who doesn't understand that leather can and does take on a completely different look after many years just doesn't understand what happens to leather over time. Well cared for leather, but still impacted by use, and then refinished looks just incredible. What were previosuly small blemishes now take on an antique look. These are just gorgeous, my pitiful attempt at photography notwithstanding.

Anyway, it looks like the thread was killed anyway so I sort of gave up, but never thought you meant anything bad. At worst I thought you might be kicking yourself, if they had been your old shoes, for giving up on them when, clearly, they could be made to look so good again. I sure wish I had gotten the metal taps on them though along with the contrasting painted waist, exactly as bengal-stripe had done on his. I will know better for next time, hence, the reason this thread and others like it ARE so valuable. I learn something I did not know all the time, although most times too late.

Got it. It's a shame they don't fit you anymore. I kick myself for selling my pair in lieu of having EG recraft them but back then I couldn't justify the price. I may just buy a pair of Falkirks directly from them which you may wish to consider also. This way you can hand those down and continue the tradition [IMG]

Quick question before contacting EG: How much would it cost in total (including shipping etc) to recraft a pair?

Including shipping in both directions from a US destination, I paid about $425. No special features either, like the metal toe. They turned out great though.

I plan on updating this thread over the next couple of days. My shoes are supposed to be here today.

On a side note, I hate UPS. They are charging me customs (requires someone to be home to pay) on my shoes, which I paid NOTHING to have EG "repair." They asked what the repairs would have cost, and they are charging me for the "increased value added to the shoes." What a bunch of crooks.
