Is your wardrobe more expensive than your car?

Does the current value of your wardrobe, by what you paid for it, exceed that of the value of your car, by what you paid for it? If you have multiple cars, consider the car you use most.

Maybe you have a stable full of Suit Supply suits, a few grand worth of shoes, a sizable tie collection, and drive a mid-level Civic.

Maybe you drive a Mercedes but have also dropped serious green on bespoke suits, ties, shoes, etc.

Maybe you thrifted a Ford Pinto to afford yet another blue jacket.

Maybe you got a car as a welcome back to America gift, and you own clothing.


Or maybe you aren't a nut and have spent more on your current car than on your current wardrobe.

I'm pretty sure it's the same for me, however the watches made it so much easier I didn't even have to think about it. LOL

Murl, I don't know to what extent your values align with those Gen X or with the Millennial generation, but I know many Millennials, myself included, no longer see a nice car as something of an "achievement unlocked" type purchase and instead view cars as more of an annoying necessity.

Although I like to think my car is relatively nice, the problem with most cars are they go from $$$$$$$$$$ to $0.

I drive an 05 Accord with 150k miles (which I love, and have no interest in upgrading whatsoever) and my wife drives an 08 Pilot.

Wardrobe far exceeds both cars without even considering my watches. No contest. Then again, while I love cool cars, I really dont strive to own one.

Because germany is so small and you can get very fast to every place by foot or with a bicycle, I have no own car.
