I hired a guy in early February for $300 for appx 6 hours of web work. I gave him til the end of February to deliver and its now 6 weeks later and the changes STILL are not made.

Ive called and sent dozens of emails asking for updates but nothing. I finally laid out an ultimatum 2 weeks ago: 1) finish it by Monday 2) Tell me what % you have complete and issue a partial refund for that or 3) If I dont hear back by Monday, then I will issue a complete chargeback.

I didnt hear back and went through paypal to issue the chargeback (yes, I had to pay up front

) He is finally writing me back asking not to do it, that its pretty much done, I dont understand how much work is actually done on the "backend" and to have our legal dept. contact him.

Three options exist:
1. Continue with the chargeback. The project is still NOT finished & functional & its almost 3 weeks past the generous deadline I gave.
2. Try to work out getting something back (unlikely)
3. Forget about fighting this since we are about 50%-75% complete - which is only like $100-$150 - but its principal now, I cant have this little punk hustle me

Let him prove it's done. Then pay him.

at that age I'd probably want him to learn a lesson on delivery and continue with a charge back, while finding an alternate supplier.

If you try and take his current "50%" and have someone else finish it, whoever takes it over to complete at this point will have to either learn whatever he's done and how ahead of completing it, or will try to undo it and patch it together with his own ideas. Either of these options are likely harder than just starting from scratch, and likely more costly as well.

^^ thanks. thats what I figured.

Should I just ignore him then? He is asking to speak to our lawyers...lol. Dealing with this anymore is gonna cost more in time lost and headaches then its even worth.

That's what I was thinking. If you can arrange the chargeback through Paypal without putting too much energy into it then go ahead. Otherwise, forget it. Probably not worth the time and aggravation at this point.

Continue with chargeback, but make sure there's no way he can backdoor his way into the system to screw something up. Make sure the domain is properly registered in your name and that he is not listed as a contact person anymore.

$50 sounds about right. Of course, I can go on guru.com and get some kid in india to do it for $15.
