I picked up a Corneliani off STP the other day, but I'm not sure the fit is very good. This is a size 52 and I usually wear a 41 US. The shoulders seem to fit pretty snug, but the chest and particularly waist have a ton of room. Now I've heard that the chest and waist can be dealt with by a knowledgeable tailor, but I want to make sure before I get the suit sliced up.

My chest measures about 42, waist is about 32.

If you really want to be sure, you should just order a suit one size down and compare the fit. STP has a pretty generous return policy.

Also, a good reputable tailor will not slice up a jacket if he thinks that you're wearing the wrong size. He should at least tell you that you might be better suited by going a size down.

It's hard to tell from the pictures you took whether the jacket is too big or not.

I wear a us 42 in most labels and get a EU 52 in Corenliani. I get a EU 54 in Isaia. If you wear a US 41, you may need to go down to an EU 50 in Corneliani, in spite of what the measurement conversions on STP tell you.

Which Corneliani is this on STP, and how much did it run you? What's the pattern?

There is an unfortunate concavity between the roping and your upper arm on the right shoulder. I'm not experienced enough to describe exactly what's causing this, but it has been described negatively by more experienced board members.

I often have way too much room in the chest in my suits, though the shoulders are snug. I wasn't aware this could be fixed my a tailor, given the structure in the chest, canvas, etc. You've been told otherwise?

Also, if your waist is 32, then a US 42R (with 35 or 36 trousers) isn't going to fit all that well without taking in the jacket. A smaller size might be in order if the shoulders aren't too tight already in this jacket.

It's hard to say, but I think you might do well to go down a size.

Honestly I think if the waist was taken in, the fit would seem pretty good, certainly there doesn't seem to be cavernous space in the chest area, and if the shoulders are snug (and they seem to be a decent fit) then you may be OK with just that simple alteration. Most tailors can not take in a jacket in the chest, it's kinda complex IIRC.

It looks like one size too big, 2 sizes too big for how *I* like my suits, but big regardless. Perhaps Corneliani is not the best cut suited for you if the shoulder fits but everything else is too big.

Too big. I wouldn't upsize with Corneliani. I wear 38R in Corneliani, but can wear up to a 40R in other makers.

Are you sure the shoulders are snug? That's the part that's throwing me. I'm having a hard time making out the pics, so it's difficult to comment in detail.
