Is this the next leaving the tag on the hat?

Picking up my mid-day coffee at a Starbucks in Birmingham, Michigan (the Upscale Chav capitol of america) today, when I noticed a guy in a slim fitting navy pinstripe suit that still had the white "X's" closing the vents on the jacket. Now ordinarily I would expect that this was carelessness, but this guy seemed to be "in" to his appearance (gold Gucci aviators, big square shoes, spikey gelled hair, etc.), plus, this is a suburb where men have been known to keep the sleeve labels on their jackets after they buy them.

What do you think, carelesness, or is this some new trend that I'm blissfully ignorant of?

It could have been an oversight; a friend of mine wore a new jacket, with the shoulder basting intact, for the good part of the day before I brought it to his attention.

I am not too far away from Birmingham and know exactly what you talking about. I have seen it several times myself.

I've seen it a few times down here and wondered just how sloppy a tailor you have to be to leave the tag on. I suppose maybe the suit just never sees a tailor.

I had a much more sinister thought that doesn't deserve expression...

Trends come and go and leaving traditional tags on hats is not new nor old but both. Not speaking of the Minnie Pearl type tags but other idenifiers like the Borsalino logo or Brent Blacks to make them easy to idenify. In a time past hat pins was a common thing as well and still is to some extent. I have even seen a decorative wind trolly button on the "Gamecock" hat that had a rooster embrodiered on it.
