Is this Spier & Mackay jacket too short?

This is a 36S contemporary. It is 28.1 inches. I'm 5'7.

A 36 regular is 29.5 which feels too long. 38S Slim is a bit longer at 28.5 but is unavailable.

I don't feel this fully "covers the seat"? Ignore pants which are yet to be hemmed.

I know pics can not give the full "picture" - but hopefully enough for some insights. I'm new to this; I feel many of you would think this should be longer, but sales reps sometimes comment that something around 29 or 29.5 looks a bit too long for me.

Yes, pictures are tricky. You could use a?square or ruler to draw a line on the wall at the where your behind transitions into your thigh. Then draw a second line at the jacket's bottom. Easiest to have another hold the ruler and draw the lines.

I think it looks a bit short, and you can see in the second picture that it doesn't drape cleanly in the back, possibly a sign that it's too small.

Many sales reps do not really know how tailoring should fit: if they're trained at all, it's to push whatever is currently in fashion, which is usually too-short, too-small jackets. If the fashion changed to zoot-suit like jackets, they would start telling you a 31 is too short.

Don't get me wrong, there are good sales reps. And the advice you get on SF is going to lean towards the conservative. But I'd say size up on the jacket: a tad longer usually looks better than a tad shorter (personal opinion) and it's easier to take a RTW garment in than it is to let it out (most RTW jackets don't have much excess fabric to let out).

It looks fine to me. It's a little bit on the short side, but still ok. A more modern look. And the trousers, of course, need tapering.

Agree that it looks slightly short to me. The trousers need hemming but they should not be tapered IMO.
