Is this shearling flight jacket too long?

Just got a new shearling flight jacket. It seems a bit long, as I'm used to most of my leather jackets being belt level. Are they supposed to be oversized or do I need to size down? (I realize this is not a repro B6 or anything, but I like this style anyway). Also I have short legs. Thanks for the advice!

I think it also depends on how warm you want the jacket. Shorter jackets are great from a looks perspective but if it's actually cold you'll want a little extra length. I don't think it makes you look too short or messes up proportions that much IMO.

I will also add - it also depends on how you dress and what look you want. A flight jacket is technically a little shorter than the one pictured. HOWEVER, pants today often have a lower rise. I had a leather jacket from Aero (highwayman) and it looked great with higher rise pants but I didn't like the look with lower rise pants so I had another made that was 2" longer. So, in technical terms, it's "LONG" for the style of jacket but works better IMO with the pants I wear with it.

So, I think technically the jacket is a little long for a flight jacket but I think it looks fine and will work well if you wear lower rise pants.

What are you wearing underneath? A sweater might have bulk to cause the jacket to wear less long. Basically, if you size down, I wonder if the sleeves would be too short, especially if you are in knitwear underneath

Hmm in the picture I'm wearing t-shirt but I was thinking of often pairing with a turtleneck

Short answer: it is.

As mentioned above, the length of the jacket depends on how you want to wear it. Most proper bomber-style jackets are on the shorter side so you gotta have pants with a higher rise. That is not a bad idea for anyone in general. In your case, the length is okay.

The most obvious problem in the fit as pictured, is the length of the sleeves. I'd say they are about 1.5" too long.
